So Dr. Foote says I need surgery.
I'm not looking forward to pain and agony and the inconvenience of trying to shower and/or make it to the bathroom to pee. And I'll be laid up all summer.
But I'm really glad that I won't be working with the people who are making such a mess out of our summer program.
It's simply a clusterfuck.
They didn't ask the advice of people who have done this forever... they decided to reinvent the wheel. And although I can't say for certain that Fluffy Jr. has impure motives, the rest of the coven doesn't give a shit about anything except making themselves look good.
It's not going to work. We're going to lose customers over some of the stupid decisions they've made. Taking away the scheduling flexibility from the families who have learned to count on us, having complete strangers providing 'care', turning the fun and games and joy into curriculum and summer school... it's gonna suck.
Now we've always provided learning opportunities. We're handed a curriculum book and some pre-done lesson plans. If our supply line is reliable, we're even able to do many of the activities. But the people who write this stuff (must have a college degree!!!) do not work with children. In fact, they may not even know any children. As a result, they come up with ideas that should work in theory, but some of the things they think are going to work just won't, they have no idea how long a simple task like washing hands will take, and they think that there's simply nothing else to do during the afternoon than school work.
The schedule that was handed to me is neatly divided into segments, this will happen at 10, this will happen at 11 and this will be done, blah blah blah.
I am sorry to be missing the whole fuckin' mess... but I'm glad, too. I would like to be there and see them as they fuck up, live, but I don't want any part of it, either.
Summer program has always been extremely stressful, the combination of kids who haven't had boundaries in their regular programs, kids who don't want to be there... now we're going to add bossy adults who are trying to make summer school out of summer camp.
Trying to manage all of it in a hot and dirty basement while maintaining some semblance of sanity has always been difficult, even when we had a supportive manager. We do NOT have a supportive manager now.
So. I should have time to get some more thoughts written here sometime soon... school's almost out and I'm really ready for a little less work stress.
I just thought I'd let you know I'm still alive. Etc.
How are things where you are?
Well dang. What will the doc be doing to your foot? and when? Can't say I blame you for wanting to miss the craziness of that summer program.
ReplyDeletePlease keep us posted about how you are doing with or without your foot.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, I'm crying silently and wishing all the best for the kids who will not have you nor Sunshine, nor any other nice people to count on for their time off from school.
wow! just wow! who would ever have thought surgery was the more peaceful and positive option! YOu are a saint to have put up with all the crap going on! They are quite simply destroying the program you and your coworkers have worked so hard to build! I am so sorry to read this. Hopefully your surgery is a success and at least you have some benefits
ReplyDeleteHate to hear about the surgery... and you know me, always the one to warn. Please don't let them give you any fluoroquinolones. The main ones they hand out like candy are...
ReplyDeleteCipro/Ciprofloxacin
Levaquin/Levofloxacin
Avelox/Moxifloxacin
Floxin/Ofloxacin
Please, please, you don't need anymore issues.
Do those parents know what is coming for their kids this summer? Anyway to let them know in advance that they might want to make other arrangements if at all possible? Anyway, I do hope the surgery is a success and you are back on your feet by fall. Good luck! JFSinIL
ReplyDeleteLike the others above have said, I, too, am sorry you have to have the surgery, but am glad that you don't have to participate in the clustrfuck that will be the Summer program. I do hope that you have someone on the inside who will report to you how things are going. You should make copies of the Summer schedule to hand your Summer people so they can decide whether or not to make other plans.
ReplyDeleteIn spite of your foot, and the vagaries of logistics, have a great Summer vacation. Gos knows you need the rest.
