Can't change anyone's mind

I am horrified by the events of this week in which still another crazy person decided the best thing to do would be to shoot a bunch of other people. Although I am sorry for his family and the people who loved him, I am glad we're spared the expense of a trial and subsequent incarceration. And glad that he's no longer a threat to anyone.

Of course his actions were not legal.
That didn't stop him.

Making more laws aren't going to fix the problem. Laws that make it harder for people to legally obtain a firearm will just cause people to obtain them illegally.

Not exactly the same, but how many of you think a restraining order will solve domestic violence issues?

We will always have crazy people.

It makes more sense to me to be able to do something in one's own defense.
Hiding in a classroom and locking a door, arming yourself with staplers and other office-type supplies isn't going to help, either.

Instead of the exercise in futility that is making more laws, why don't we make sure our gun-free zones are secure places? Or put some armed people between us and them?

The shooting at Reynold's high school was stopped by armed men. The messed up kid who decided that killing a bunch of people was a great solution ended up dead himself, with a minimal loss of life. Because armed people were on the spot almost immediately.

I know that I won't be able to change anyone's mind. It's why I'm staying out of the debate on Facebook and with people I know.

Many of my online acquaintances have exquisite reflexes... causes them to knee jerk.

Guns are scary! They make me uncomfortable! BAN ALL THE GUNS! OMG OMG!!!

I understand their fear. But when your fear makes you completely irrational and unable to see reality, making new laws isn't going to fix YOU, either.

Having a bunch of fucking politicians decide who's capable of owning a firearm and who is not is a shitty idea, too. Consider the other decisions they have made against for us.
