Ruffled me, now that I know I have to devote an entire Thursday afternoon and a FULL Saturday to training for a job that I've been doing for ELEVEN YEARS.
Oh boy. Yes, that's right. Not one but TWO days of training for a job that I not only can do in my sleep, I frequently DO in my sleep. I am constantly dreaming about work. I dream about losing a kid, like one stays behind on the playground when we come in or sneaks away when I'm not looking. I dream up craft projects and game ideas. I dream about kids I don't even know. I have devoted so much thought and energy to what I do that I don't know any other way. So yes. I dream of it. I devote whole days OFF to it. Unpaid. I guess the good part of this, if there is one, is that I will be getting paid to go and sit and try to stay awake while someone or another drones on and on and on.
I know that there's always something to learn. I don't think I know everything. We're going to have to go down to Buttfuck Egypt for the Thursday training. I have two choices. I can drive there and fight the crazy traffic on the freeways. Or, I can take the mass transit train and walk a block. That area of town isn't somewhere I really want to walk a block, although I am just as likely to get a stray bullet through the window of my car, really.
It's down by Lloyd Center, or as it's referred to here, Gang Central. Bunch of shitheads with their colors and their drugs and their guns. No, I am not exaggerating. It's the asshole of the universe.
During the work day it's not as bad, but you can ALWAYS spot plenty of shitheads down there. And they're on the train, too, at least until one gets to about 39th. Talking on their phones, saying 'motherfucker' every fourth word and glaring at everyone around them, just daring them to say anything at all.
I usually put in my headphones if I have to ride the train alone, although I don't turn on any music. I want to hear what's going on around me. Just putting in the earbuds is like hanging a do not disturb sign around my neck, and usually no one bothers me.
It's amusing to see the fleas hopping off the train if a fare inspector boards, too. Our trains are on the honor system. They trust you to buy a ticket. Sometimes an inspector boards a train to look at everyone's ticket, but it's unusual. A lot of people ride free, as they're not concerned about it. More shitheads.
So yeah, I imagine I'll be driving. It's stressful, but I can park free in the lot of the building we'll be in, and my car will be safe to get in and out of. But it seems such a waste of time.
I'll be bringing some drawing supplies.

Some pencil pusher is justifying their job by scheduling and running these "trainings". Obviously gunning for a raise since they managed to find a "need" for a two-day training.

I have a suspicion it's our new manager who thinks this is necessary. The fact that I disagree doesn't mean much, of course.
DeleteI will go. I won't like it.
Tell them you are sick.
ReplyDeleteI can't do that. It would feel dishonest.
DeleteThe idea of attending hours and hours and hours of training for a job that I've done for eleven years makes me sick, but somehow I doubt that would be an acceptable excuse. ;)
Or, leave early saying you are sick. That way you "show up". Just sayin.....
ReplyDeleteI'll go. I will grouse about it. I will draw a bunch of tangly stuff. I will wonder why people can't see the larger picture. ::sigh::
DeleteToo bad they can't have the meetings at a nice restaurant and at least feed you a great meal!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds good on the surface, but most restaurants serve stuff I can't eat anyway. And of course I would have to be social and make conversation with people I don't have anything but the job in common with.
DeleteI will make it through the trainings, but I won't like it.
