Poor Phil

I read a news report this evening that at a Groundhog Day event, the rodent bit the mayor of the town on the ear.

I always feel so bad for the poor ground hoggie... drag the hibernating guy out of his burrow and flash a bunch of lights in his face, make a bunch of noise and pretty much ensure your place in the depths of hell.
If you ask me.
Which you did not.
But if you had.

I looked for a couple minutes for a thing I saw once about being slapped by a bear for waking it up. That's how I feel. And if someone woke me up by dragging me out of bed and making a bunch of noise and flashing lights in my face, I would do my best to take off his or her head.

What an odd custom, the whole Groundhog Day thing.
Of COURSE there will be six more weeks of winter. It's fucking February. When I looked it up, I found that Spring begins on March 20th, which is slightly more than six weeks away. You can't change the calendar to make it happen sooner.

This is one of the links I found information about Groundhog Day.
I read bits of it aloud to Eric. He may have said something obscene, prompted by the location where this stuff takes place... Gobbler's Knob.

Anyway, it's another custom that needs to stop. What a waste of time, money, airtime, and that poor damn groundhog!!!!

  2. The book I grabbed from the library told how scared a cartoon groundhog was to GO OUT. Generations before her were also scared, because obviously the town historian's daughter (human) visited her burrow and showed her notes from all the past groundhogs.. way to milk it, author. Anyway... even my 3 and 6 year old's thought it was strange.

  3. I hate being rudely awoken! I'd bite, too... right after I got my heart settled back to beating correctly!

  4. I totally agree! What a freaking waste of time/money/and everything else. Funny some folks will decide a rodent "knows" a fact and then refuse to actually see facts when presented with valid proof. Boggles my mind.
