Oh look! A Jennifer story!

Tuesday morning, Jennifer was playing the restaurant game with the other kids and somehow managed to poke herself a good one in the hand with the tip of the pencil instead of writing 'spaghetti' on the order pad.

She started with one of her grand mal tantrums. Huge tears, carrying on like someone had amputated a finger.

Came running to me, Annie* close behind her, yelling all the way.

Annie stood next to her while Jennifer held out her hand to me, wailing loudly. Evidently Annie hadn't actually seen the wound until then. Then she got a look at it and started to scream and cry in chorus with Jennifer.

Instantly, Jennifer stopped crying. "Annie! I'm okay!! Don't have a cow! It's just a little blood!!"

Annie wasn't buying it. Her hysteria was growing instead. Jennifer sensibly covered the blood with the piece of paper towel I handed her, which caused Annie to stop crying. Huh. Guess the sight of blood bothers her.

I sent Jennifer to the restroom to wash her hand and got her a bandage. She came back, put the bandage on and went back to playing with the other kids.

For the next half hour, she was fine.

When it was about time for the bell to ring, she suddenly was in 'mortal pain'.
How do I know that? Why, because she told me so.

"I'm in mortal pain! I don't know how I will manage to do my school work today, this hurts way more than it should. I might need to have medical attention!"

"I hope you can manage to make it through the day, Jennifer. I know that a little time can make the wound hurt less. Hopefully you'll be able to do what you need to do."

"But I might have to go home! I will tell my teacher," she decided. "She will probably tell me to go to the office, and they'll call my mom."

It seems that she made it through the day after all because she showed up in my program after school, but I'm sure she tried getting out of schoolwork all day.

She was conscious of it (I'm sure it did hurt.. but not as much as she let on) and told the other kids at snack time, "Eww! My hand smells like BLOOD!!"

::snork::

It didn't stop her from swinging, using the monkey bars, or playing with the other kids after school, but it did suddenly cause her a great deal of pain when her dad came to pick her up.

In other news, there is no other news.
Wait, maybe there is.

I don't know yet what the amount of damage to my car is. There has been no contact from the repair place. Since it's been a week, it seems to me that they should have called me by now. So tomorrow I will contact my insurance agent who can make those pesky phone calls for me.

Speaking of pesky phone calls, Eric and I are going to use the time share again in a few months, and because of that, the resort people think it's fine to call my damn cell phone with their sales pitch.

Since I screen my calls and I don't answer unless I know who it is, I had to look up the 800 number online. And that's how I found out. So I saved the number and named it Ignore.

We will go check in at the resort and they will ask us to listen to a sales pitch. I understand that. We will politely decline. After that, they need to leave us alone. I'll be disconnecting the telephones in our room and reminding friends and family to call Eric's cell instead of mine.

Short of knocking on the door, there is no way for them to bother us while we're trying to relax.

If they do knock on the door, I will jab them with a pencil. They'll be in mortal pain. They'll need to seek medical attention.

  1. Ha! Keep that pencil handy, because they will surely try! You can tell them, Back off, I have a pencil and I'm not afraid to use it! Only they might want you to sign your life away.

    1. Oh man, they better not come to my door. Grrrr.
I understand it's part of their job to push the time share thing. And I'm polite. The FIRST time.

  2. I love your Jennifer stories! I'm glad I'd swallowed my coffee before I 'snorted'! Poor kid! Mortal pain must be awful!

Enjoy your trip. I have a few planned myself. Going to TX the end of this month to see our grandson graduate from Culinary arts school. Do you suppose he'll fix us a meal? I'm not holding my breath. Then, the first week of March, we'll head to Omaha to meet the new one that was born on my birthday! In May, we head to Gatlinberg TN for a long weekend for our 50th anniversary! I'm tired thinking about it!

    1. We aren't going for a couple months. I'm looking forward to it for a lot of reasons, but one of the big ones is that Eric gets to take some time off. He works way too hard for very little appreciation from the people he works for. Also, we still really enjoy each other's company, and having no phone ringing, no alarm clock going off and waking up to the ocean view? Awesome.

Congrats on the new grandbaby! Nice birthday present. :)
