In case you wondered, I hate it and it's not any more fun this evening than it was last night or the night before. Or the night before that or the night before that. Dammit.
It's nearly 8 PM right now, so I can't take any Excedrin, which I think would probably help. Excedrin wrecks my stomach and is full of caffeine, both are bad ideas when I'm going to be in bed a little over an hour from now.
The migraine medication works. It has side effects, makes me pee 8 times in a night, makes me feel like I'm just a consciousness, floating above the bed when I am sleeping. It's odd stuff. There is nothing even resembling a high when I am awake and I take it, mostly I just alternately sweat and freeze. Seems to really mess with my temperature regulator, unfortunately.
I have to decide... pee a lot and have weird temperature fluctuations or don't take it and have horrendous pain in my head and wonder if I'm going to barf for eight or nine hours.
So I take the medication. I still throw up sometimes anyway, but if I have kept it down for 30 minutes, it usually

I found something interesting online this evening. I was visiting Dharma to get some tie dye supplies, and came across some stuff called 'color magnet'. My always-thinking-about-tangles brain instantly said, HEY!
I ordered two of the pens. Will see how well it works. The possibilities are intriguing.
And that's it, kids. Taking the headache and going to bed. Hoping to feel better, or at least no worse in the morning.
There is no school tomorrow, courtesy of Abe Lincoln/George Washington. Of course no one uses the day to celebrate presidents or politics, but it's nice to sleep in.
I'll be working a short shift. Hoping the headache is gone so I can take advantage of the extra time AM/PM and visit Goodwill.
Pass the Excedrin.
"Another of the most commonly overlooked migraine triggers is a magnesium deficiency. The precise role of this mineral in the development of migraines is still being unraveled, but we do know that magnesium deficiencies allow serotonin levels to flow unchecked. A serotonin increase causes vascular spasms, which then reduces blood flow and oxygen to the brain. It also brings about the release of other pain-producing chemicals—such as certain prostaglandins and the neuropeptide known as substance P.
ReplyDeleteStudies have repeatedly shown that up to 50 percent of migraine patients have lowered levels of magnesium during an attack, and an infusion of the mineral can provide rapid and sustained relief. Additionally, routine oral use of magnesium can reduce both the frequency and severity of such attacks."
I have heard of the magnesium link. Frankly, I'm a little scared to try it because of the explosive sharts that some people have posted about. Maybe on a weekend when I don't have to be out and about... I would like to be done with the headaches. They are fewer now that I've reached mythical dry-up, but still...
DeleteI think I'll try Mrs A's suggestion too! Anything to reduce the time/pain/barfing. Hope you feel better pronto!
ReplyDeleteFeeling basically human this morning. Good thing, too, since I have to go in to work. Not many kids, and hopefully it will be peaceful. I'm not up to dealing with the craziness of the few who come from Erin's* site. Ughhhhhh.
Deleteglad to read you are feeling better, I have been bucking a headache too for the last few days , they suck
ReplyDeleteI think there oughta be a law.
DeleteGood to see you are feeling better. Too bad you couldn't have taken the entire day though. But hey... it could have been worse, you could have been up on my roof raking with me.... which is still not done... I'm aiming for finishing it up AFTER the snow tomorrow, preferably when it's not -7 in wind chill. *sigh* The good news? Apparently we're getting a 6 day break in snow events after tomorrow. WHOO HOO!!
ReplyDeleteThey're hand-wringing here... we need more snooooooooooooooowwwwww.
DeleteScrew that.
I've never gotten the sharts from magnesium. Just go low and slow and build up. (I use drops in juice, so I can control the dose) There is also a time release type that won't cause it either. The key is to start low and go slow, after a few days, increase the dose. A person who used to suffer from migraines and stopped having them after taking magnesium, recommended KAL magnesium glycinate daily (200mg x 3) from the Vitamin Shoppe. She hasn't had a migraine in 5 years. Also, you can use magnesium oil for direct absorption and it will skip the digestive track, so it won't cause the sharts, either.
ReplyDeleteI am going to see what I can do to find that...where do you get it? I am ready to be done with the effing headaches for sure. ::Sigh:: had another one this morning...
