Picture this...

Annie* is seven.
She has huge blue eyes, long legs and arms, and a mane of thick, chestnut brown impossible-to-tame hair.

Everything she talks about is serious.
Her eyes get bigger, she dances from foot to foot, gestures with her hands and enunciates everything carefully.

It's just a crackup to listen to her, but of course I don't laugh or even smile at her cuteness, that would hurt her feelings.

Instead, I just treat each conversation with the gravity she does, and try to remember to write it down later.
She's just so cute and so funny.

Today's conversation was prompted by the petri dish magnets we made. She looked at them lined up on my table this morning after I'd hot-glued the magnets on them and said, "Do you know you can make a snowman out of paper plates?"

When I asked her how one would do that, she told me.
You have to picture her with the above information, the seriousness, the dancing, the big eyes and expansive gestures. I so wish I could show you pictures of these kids sometimes. :)

Here's what she said, verbatim.

"
First you get three or two paper plates.
Then, you glue them on it." (I'm not sure what she meant to glue them onto, but she said it like that.)
"Then you get some potsicle sticks... like 10 or seven of them. And you stab it. And then you tape the potsicle sticks.
On it.
And it has eyes, too.
And you just give it to your teacher, like if it's Mrs. Voldemort.
I love potsicles. In the summer. And you save the sticks."

So there you have it. Try it and let me know how it worked out for you.
I love my job.
