Ah, bring out the jokes...

It seems that the whole 'we're all going to dye' joke never gets old. 'I think we all need to dye.' is always fun, too. And some wail plaintively, "I don't WANNA dye!!!"

That's what happened at work today. We dyed.
We went with a tropical theme this year, hot pink, tangerine and Caribbean blue. I am looking forward to seeing the finished products.

Some of the kids were really excited about it.
Some have done it enough times that they didn't want to do it again, but Dave was excited.

He's not very crafty, our Dave. Most of the time he passes on the craft activity. This is fine, no one must do the projects I offer. They're there for the kids who want to do them. Those kids who would rather play and be kids are always allowed the freedom to do that.

But while Dave was dyeing his pillowcase, he said at least three times during the process, "I just love this!"

So when my inner voice says, "What were you THINKING???" I will remember how excited Dave was.

I was on my feet for a majority of the afternoon, and my knee has a bit of water in it this evening, but I'm outside two aspirin and a vicodin. So it's backing off some and as a bonus, I will sleep like a brick.

I did get tagged on my forearms with a little tangerine and blue, and noticed some hot pink on my t shirt, but that's why I wear a shirt that's already been tagged by one or two or three kids when we dye. :)

Lyssa was my assistant for the afternoon. We really have it down to a science. She sat down with the kids while I was finishing the sign in process and doing other tasks and she helped them mark and band their shirts. We tossed them all in the soak bucket, had our snacks and some play time, then everyone went outdoors.

I helped the kids two at a time with their projects. I think we did 13 today.

I know for sure at least one kid will be wearing their creation tomorrow.

I told Dave that I know he won't be wearing a pillowcase to school, but please bring it in to show to me.

I have a couple baby things to dye, too. I imagine I'll get around to that this weekend. Also waiting for color? Some socks, a whole package of brand new underwear, and at least four shirts.

I'll be tropical, too.
