Today is gone. Today was fun! Tomorrow is another one!

Showed up out at my school at 6:20 Wednesday morning.
Limped up to the front door, waved my magic electronic badge in front of the little window, watched the light inside turn green and the lock... didn't click.

So I tried again.

Nothing.

Shit.

The only person on site at that time of day is the custodian, and he doesn't go on the clock until 6:30. So he's nowhere near the front door, it's cold out, it's dark, and here I am. Can't get in.

I pondered waiting for one of my parents to show and having them walk with me to another door. It's dark out there, it's out in the country, and I was a little nervous. In addition, I am once again limping around, and uneven surfaces aren't friendly to my knee.

Since the knee has been messed up for almost a month now, my back has followed suit and is also a mess. Limping around causes your body to skew all over the place and isn't conducive to good posture, comfort, or, well, anything.

I ended up hiking around the building to the door nearest the kitchen, hoping my badge would work on it. Since the light had turned green, I suspected it was a door problem, not a badge problem. I actually tripped on a paving stone in the flower bed, but managed to catch my balance. (Mental 1, World 0)

Got in through the kitchen door.
Found our custodian and let him know. Evidently the night monitor had flipped the wrong switch and the door wasn't working properly.

About 8:00 I realized the little headache I had wasn't a little headache. It was a migraine.

Also today...
My little earbud thing quit working. The one that allows me to legally drive and talk on the phone. I almost never use it, but once in awhile it's nice to have. I think I use it more at home when I don't want to hold the phone to my head for long periods of time than when I am driving.

I pulled over to call the urgent care place to make sure my chart was faxed to the proper place. I pulled over again when Eric called me. I hate having to get stuff replaced/repaired.

Okay. Hang on. I have to go sleep for about 10 hours. I was going to finish this post tonight so it would post at 1 past midnight as usual, but then it occurred to me... why?? If I get it posted 'sometime' isn't that good enough? I mean, I know Tami worries if I don't post, but since I have FB now and I'm easy to get in touch with and if there's something really wrong I'd call her anyway (run on sentences with tons of grammatical errors are FUN! Try it!!) I figured I could take a little break. And sleep.

Annnnd... I'm back!! Speaking of backs...

My back is out. It's up high, not down low. And most of the time I am moving fine, although carefully. Quantities of aspirin that are at the very edge of dosage allowances are helping, as is sitting when needed and very carefully getting up from a seated or lying down position. The hot showers I had twice on Wednesday were helpful, too. A hot bath would be wonderful, but I can't get up from the bottom of the bathtub. And I think I've mentioned before that I like hot firefighters and paramedics as much as the next old housewife (I'm married, not dead) I don't particularly want to meet them in those circumstances.

Of course, I'm the only one keeping score in my own little game. And in the general bigger game, my scores are meaningless, many people are playing a larger game than I am. So I have some perspective, too.

So I'm going to post this. Get another hot shower. Pay some bills.Clean the kitchen table off, do the dishes, run to the post office and ::gasp:: cook dinner! There is no school today, I have the day off. Tomorrow I work an easy shift, then I'm off some more!

This is the first morning of the fall season I've built a fire in the woodstove in the living room. It's starting to feel decent in the house. Yay.

Okay. I'm off.

  1. I don't dare keep score... I already know the world is beating the sh!t outta me, without having the numbers to prove it.

    Feel better, woman!
