I'm off

A referral to see an orthopedic specialist came my way today.
So as soon as I can, I will get in to see him.

He was highly recommended by a couple people I know and trust. Good enough.

I've been told he listens before he ever even touches a person. And that he has a sense of humor, is an all-around decent guy, and that he is a very good surgeon, too.

I don't know at this point if I will need to have surgery. (Please no... no no no no no...) but if I do, it sounds like I'd be in good hands.

The doctor once again suggested that I take time off work. And once again I said, "No. Thank you. I prefer to be at work. If I took off because my knee hurts, well, I'd have a sore knee AND I'd be stressed out. So I promise to be careful with what I'm doing. And take sitting breaks. And not do anything stupid."

He said, "You're the one who knows your limitations. Pay attention to them."

Okay. Will do.

I'm working. Sitting. Being careful.
And tonight, going to bed on time.

So that's it.

I'm off to the specialist. I don't want him to find anything structurally wrong, but if he does, it sounds like he would know what to do about it.

  1. A doctor that listens BEFORE treating... how rare! If that IS the case, I'd hang on to him!

    1. It's Sunday the 13th as I'm replying here. I have an appointment on Monday. Tomorrow. I am hopeful because one of the grandparents of one of 'my' kids has been to this guy three times for various surgeries and has sent more than one family member to him, too.

And someone I know very well and trust to have my best interests out front has also recommended him.

I have read a couple reviews online, but of course you never know who really wrote that stuff.

I'll let you know if he lives up to the hype. :)

  2. I have been more or less treating my own ankle for the last 3 weeks. I managed after working all day, a 1.25 mile run at normal pace, and putz-ed around the yard a bit. It's wrapped in a heating pad now, and I'll do my stretches after. The PT guys are good with it as long as I don't hurt myself. Because Gawd knows I can't take any more time off and I can't afford a $20 co-pay 3X per week. *sigh*

Of course, I often do stupid things and push the limits.... so maybe I'm not the best to comment here.

    Fingers crossed on no surgery!

    1. I'm torn. (haha.. that's punny...) I don't want to have surgery again. DO NOT want. But the knee is bothering me enough since the 'twist' a month ago to make me think that something a little more serious than 'take two aspirin and call me in the morning' is going on. Dammit. I hope you're doing better. I understand pushing the limits. The first thing the work comp doc told me to do was stop working. I refused. Nicely. But I refused. This isn't about me wanting to take time off.
