One reason...

I dislike visiting Eastern Oregon is that it always, every single time, without fail, makes me sick. I have no idea how I lived there for so many years and wasn't ill, but you know, I had a TON of nosebleeds when I lived there. Had to have it cauterized twice, once they cauterized it and packed my whole nose full of gauze. Oh boy was that fun!

I have a migraine the whole time I'm there. I take a migraine pill or two every single day.

I get dehydrated. I drink and drink and drink. Water. Gatorade. More water. Doesn't matter. When I get home, I am still all dried out.

It takes a week to 10 days for me to start feeling better again. For my skin to stop looking all dry and ashy. For my skin to not feel so... brittle.

I am allergic to sage. Can't eat it, it makes my throat feel all closed up. Not good. If it's raining and there's sage growing, I get like an asthma attack, although I've never had asthma.

I think the sage that grows all over the place there is what causes my nose to get infected. I have a deviated septum on the left side. I get nosebleeds when I come back to Portland, usually they're over in a couple days and fairly mild.

But tonight I had a whopper. Went through a bunch of tissues. It would not stop. It just...poured. I had to pack in ice for about half an hour to get it to even slow down.

I know that the migraine pill I had to take about 2 this afternoon probably didn't help (they raise BP) but it was a nasty nosebleed. Now I'm afraid to touch my nose. I'm afraid I'll rub it in my sleep or forget about it after I get out of the shower in the morning and blow my nose and start it all up again.

I don't visit over there very often.
I'm thinking right now that I don't ever want to go back!!

I am glad you visited and it was the highlight of our summer. Sorry the climate etc. do not agree with you. I just cherish the time you spent with us over here. Take care and let us know how you get along with recovery from the nosebleeds.

Wish I had learned the cause and cure for what ails you in my 76 years here on earth, but I haven't. :0(

  3. My son used to get those kinds of nose bleeds - the never-ending kind. One time he bled in school for an hour and the principal sat with him trying to stop the bleed. I don't know the answer to your problem. I've heard of putting vaseline in your nose to keep it moist to prevent nose bleeds. That's all I got.

  4. Dang! That is rough. I am so sorry.
I'd be staying out of that part of Oregon if I were you.

  5. Ami - use post-its to remind yourself not to blow your nose. Put them on the tissue box(es); In your bag; write it on your mirror so when it steams up you'll see it.

I am sooo glad I rarely get nosebleeds, but I do when I get dehydrated, and I hate them.

Get back to Western State normal soon. [HAH - that would be Western Oregon State normal. In these parts Western State is the local mental hospital.lol]
