It seemed like a good idea...

I went to bed about 11 last night (Saturday).
Started to fall asleep about midnight (hamster on the brainwheel kept me awake...) and a thunderstorm started.

Between the storm, the hamster, and my mom's dog who somehow got in through one of the doors I had FIRMLY closed and stuck her wet nose on my foot, I was still awake to hear one of the clocks strike THREE. That's 3 AM.

So I took half a xanax and turned off my alarm, thinking that even if I didn't make it home until 9 PM I would start out well rested and just sleep until I woke up on my own.

Ha.

I got up at 7:40 to go to the bathroom and grabbed earplugs and went back to bed.

As tired as I was, it was pretty easy to fall asleep again.
At 8:20, the dog went off.

Yap yap yap yap yap yap yap yap.
Yap!! Yap yap!!!

It was her way of letting the whole fucking universe know that my brother Jim and his family had arrived.

They were getting ready to go help Judy's aunt with the estate sale they've been doing, and didn't want me to leave town without coming over to tell me goodbye.

Which really was very sweet. And I am so very glad I got to see them again, although I'd planned to drive over to the yard sale to say goodbye...um.. later.

So I got up and showered and got decent, visited with my brother and his wife and my nephew, bought gas for the car and pulled out of John Day about 11:30.

Driving five hours on about four hours of sleep. Yay.
I wasn't really looking forward to the drive, but decided to make the best of things by stopping when I saw a photo op, taking each and every opportunity to stop at bathrooms along the way, calling and checking in with family on the journey, belting out songs with the stereo as I drove and swallowing both a migraine pill and a caffeine tablet when I reached Prineville, where Steve-of-the-moon lives with his wife. :) I stopped at their house for about half an hour and realized how tired I was.

So the five hour drive ended up taking me 6.5 hours. I did take some photos, but haven't looked at them yet. I will share them if they're worth sharing.

Tomorrow.

I got home to a dinner of steak, shrimp, and a baked potato. My man always takes such good care of me. :)

Now it's 8:30, and I'm off.
Yes, I can hear you laughing at that. Stop.

  2. Nice area for a drive. From a high desert to rain forest through several different vegetation zones. Darn, I miss the Northwest!

  4. After your weekend, and waking to a damned yapping doglet (gosh I hate those little barky dog wannabees), I hope you fell into a deep slumber. And I'm glad you didn't fall asleep while driving!!
