Justice, retirement and fevers. Erasers.

On my way to work Thursday morning, a light turned yellow, then red. I slowed when it turned yellow, and had stopped before it turned red.

The car coming toward me in the opposite direction evidently had a driver who was either in a big hurry and didn't think that red light was for him, or was just... stupid.

I counted between two and three seconds after the red before he blasted through the intersection. I'm glad the car to my right didn't anticipate the green or go instantly when it turned. I don't care to see something like that, especially not so early in the morning!!

The car to my right, waiting to turn left into the intersection, was a Oregon State Police officer's car. And although I've seen several occurrences of red light running in front of a cop where the cop seems unconcerned, this was not one of those times.

Oops. Busted!!

Sort of a crappy start to your day if you're on your way to work and do something dumb like that, huh?

This afternoon, Alden* asked me if I was going to retire.
Just out of the blue. No reason I can discern. When I assured him that I have no plans to retire, he said, "Oh. Good."
Kids are so funny.

I am still running a fever. Tomorrow (or today as you read this) is Friday. As much as I hate the idea, if I am not feeling a LOT better by Friday evening, I am going to stop medicating the fever. The only reason I've been taking aspirin is to cut the fever so I can work. Fevers almost always make me utterly miserable, so trying to work with one would be difficult for me. More difficult than working with the joint aches and headache and aching eyeballs and crabby mood, that is.

But if I'm still running the fever in the evening, I'll try to tough it out for 24 hours or so, hoping that will finally burn up/out the viral critters running around pooping all over in my system.

I had this urge to stop at Goodwill Thursday morning on my way home from work. I almost didn't stop, because I really AM feeling crappy, and instead of taking a nap for an hour and a half or so, have been sleeping the entire three to four hours I have between shifts, trying to kill this damn bug.

But I stopped in for about 15 minutes. And I found a huge bag of erasers. Flowers and bugs and fish and rainbows and peace signs and who knows what. There must be 500 of them in there. I understand that not everyone would share my joy in this purchase, but there are a ton of little crafts one can make with erasers (yes, really) and they also make great prizes to add to the prize box.

**edited to add... we weighed them. There are nine lbs of erasers in that seven dollar bag. Allow my my joy in small things, please. Whales, two different kinds of flowers, flower bouquets and butterflies.

Aren't you glad you stopped by today?

Alden probably heard talk of another world leader stepping down, and all the attendant concern. You are obviously one of the centers of his world and he wants to make sure everything will stay the same:)

    1. Heehee.. I think you may be attaching too much importance to me.

Alden is a creature of habit, though. He really likes to know what's coming next, how long it will be before we change activities, what time his mom will be there, what is the date....

  2. I love finding special treats at thrift stores. "I got twenty dollars in my pocket...' Watch that fever.

    1. I now have a ten dollar store credit. For every 400 you spend, you get 10 bucks. Not enough incentive for me to shop there, but since I have plenty of other incentives, it's a nice bonus.

I've wished so many times that I'd kept track of what I bought and how much it would have been had I paid retail prices so I could have a clue how much money I've saved. When I need something, I go to Goodwill first. I have a running list of things to look for every time I go in, too.

Fever is mostly gone. Had a little recurrence last night, but today, nada.

  3. Do those erasers really erase? Can they be used for stamping? Nine pounds should last you quite a while. Hope you can burn off your cold/flu this weekend.

    1. They'd be plain flat stamps, but the shapes would be obvious, I think. Hadn't thought of stamping. :) Thanks!

And I seem to be feeling a LOT better. Thank goodness. One of the sad things about my job is that we don't have subs. When one of us is sick and needs to take time off, it's hell trying to cover our shift.

  4. I read somewhere to use an eraser on your windshield when it steams up instead of a cloth or paper towel and it clears it right up. :0)
    I'm looking for one.
    Feel better soon Ami. (((hugs)))

    1. I have never heard that. Fortunately I don't often have steamed up windows. (we don't make out in the car anymore... haha)

    1. I sometimes wonder how I became someone who'd get excited over a bag of erasers. :)

I am feeling a lot better. Rest and rest and letting the fever do its job seems to have helped immensely.

Ha! So the Statey nailed the jerk? I sure hope so...

Retire? Does Alden think you're old or something?

Hope you're feeling better today. My fever only just subsided yesterday. Yeesh. Over a week of that shit!

I was stoked to find "Heathers" at our thrift store on base this week. Woo hoo! There's nothing like a $2 DVD - one you had on your "Make Hubby Watch" list anyway. ;)

    1. The cop pulled the guy over. I saw it in my rear view mirror. I don't know if he got a ticket, but I sure hope so. That light was RED RED RED, not barely red. Dangerous and stupid.

I am feeling about 90% human today. Not sure what the other 10% is.

  7. My youngest has quite an eraser collection. Like match box cars only erasers. He'll get them all out, line them up, count them, trade them with friends.

Hell of a score for you to have gotten 9 freaking pounds for 7 bucks!!

    1. It's funny that no one in my family is as excited as I am by the acquisition of those erasers. :)
