whooooooooooooooooosh

Time is flying! So are yard debris, gallons of rain, sticks, anything that isn't tied down.

Got on early this evening to make sure I write a post before we (possibly) lose power. The weather jerks are promising something like 'the storm of the century' and suggested that we might lose power.

Ha, I feel powerless enough as it is.

Apparently we're to have 45 to 50 mph wind and 60 mph gusts. I fail to see how this is any different from our regular winter stuff, but of course I am not a weather guy.

So if the power is out at the school, they close the school for the day. Last time that happened, the power was out at 7:30, they called school for the day, then the power came on about 8:10. And it was too late to change their minds, so everyone got a day off.

I'll be taking some days off this holiday... I asked for vacation time between January 2nd and 4th, giving me the whole week. I have accrued some vacation time since last year when I was sliced and diced. This will be the first vacation time I've taken since that happened.

And on that front, I am finally really starting to do better physically. It's been a really tough three years, a ton of rehab work, pain, work, pain, pain, and pain. It's been a pain. :)

Today I noticed that I can get up and down from the sofa without having to have my seat elevated with a stack of pillows. I know that probably doesn't sound like a big deal, but I have not been able to do that in three years.

I have been trying to do strengthening exercises and working a bit on balance. I am not a thin person, and sometimes that doesn't help, either, but most of my difficulty has been because of my painful knees, pre and post op.

It is NOT an easy recovery process, that's for sure.

Ah well. I'm glad it's behind me.

On the 'time flying' front, I celebrated last week's birthday by having lunch with Tami on Saturday. We went to Chang's Mongolian Grill (referred to by Alden as 'You know, that, um, mongoloid place?' when he was telling me about a visit from his little cousins) and had a nice, leisurely meal.

Then, we stopped by the craft store. I am unreasonably excited by the purchase of a Santa hat and a black top hat for Leopold and 20 little flocked pumpkins for craft projects in October 2013. I picked up a couple micron pens for the Zentangly stuff I do, and it seems like something else, too, but can't remember.

What I DO remember is spending time with my friend. The one who's always there to listen to me, the one who, although she has a million and one things that she's always juggling, has ALWAYS had time for me. Always has insight. Always makes me smile.

So I'm going to hit post on this before the wind blows the house away. Hope you have a good Monday, safe and warm and full of friends.

  1. Hi Ami, As a fellow crafter, I can't imagine ever being "unreasonably excited by the purchase of a Santa hat and a black top hat". Ha-- Love that.

I am so glad you are seeing improvement in your health. It's been a long haul and you deserve a break in the "feeling good" category. I hope it continues.

I caught up on your posts and the conversation with your kids about the mall shooting-- Who ever could have imagined the place we're in now. Big sigh. I'm glad there are teachers like to to work with and talk to our little ones.

    Hope the power is A-okay.

    1. Leopold was stunning in his Santa hat, red and green beads and his black bag. Bag was made by Penny*, and I added some festive string to it.

    1. I find that I run a little late on comments, too. I try to answer everyone who comments, but don't always have time during the week. So I go back and try to play catch up when I can.

All is well, but there were a lot of downed trees and branches on my way out to work.

  4. I hate outages since I have an electric wheel chair and lift chair, well, since MS. I worked at our city power co. for 18yrs--loved it, and outages meant OT $$.
You have a great friend there!

    1. It would suck to be dependent on electricity for mobility and then have the power off for any length of time.

And Tami is one in a billion.

  6. So very glad to hear that you are feeling better physically. Feeling better effects every aspect of your life.

And really there is nothing better than spending time with your friend. Someone who doesn't judge, but yet can tell you like it is.

I even feel better mentally... because of feeling better physically.
