(Updated to add here... I may not agree with your choice or your vote, but I am assuming that you spent time pondering those choices and voted responsibly and in the way you saw best just as I did.

We're still counting ballots, although most races and issues have been decided.
And on three different news websites this morning I saw speculation about who may run for president in 2016.
Really? OH GOD.

We're not polarized enough with the 'issues'? (And if you're smart, you've looked deeply at those issues and realized that many of them are political tricks designed to misdirect you... 'pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!!!')
Really? The ballots have just been counted, the shellshocked zombies who used to be the electorate are wandering around dazed, punch drunk, and apathetic... and you want to start talking about what might happen in 2016?
It's sick, it's disgusting, and the smarmy little phrase 'disenfranchised voter' doesn't even come close to describing me or many of my friends.
I think no matter which asshole you voted for, you're as tired as I am of all the rhetoric and bullshit and being bombarded by the political shit.
But what to do about it?
What's the answer?
Not voting, while certainly attractive and the path that requires the least effort and thought, isn't really the answer, I don't think.
I believe part of the answer lies in controlling the media. I don't mean controlling it the way it's controlled now, by mostly liberal dipshits, I mean control as in making them shut the fuck up with all their polls and calling the election before a portion of the country has even had an opportunity to vote.
Part of the answer lies in giving everyone choices, too. I mentioned that about 10 minutes after the polls closed here, they called the presidential election. My vote did not count, neither did those of all the Californians, Washingtonians, Alaskans... the whole Western US is completely left out. Except of course for fundraising. Those happy motherfuckers were here in droves to take money from the rich to spend on more flyers and more lies. That goes for ALL sides... they all lie, they all cheat, and they treat their opponents like something you scrape off the bottom of your shoes.
It sincerely needs to stop, much smarter and more politically savvy people have said so as well, and nothing is changing.
So what's the answer?
Perhaps another natural disaster. Governor Chris Christy(sp?) -R spoke with President Barack Obama recently after Storm Sandy hit News Jersey and York. Ex-presidents H.W.Bush and Clinton raised money together for Katrina relief. This seems to be a way to get both sides to work together.

ReplyDeleteAnd I don't know what the answer is, but I agree that something needs to be done. We're always taught that every vote counts, but you're absolutely right. When they call the election just minutes after the polls close on the other coast, it makes absolutely no sense. Talk about alienating the voters!
But if we form a government toenail clipping department, think of the JOBS CREATED!! Those are REAL JOBS. SHOVEL READY!!

I often feel the same ,like my vote did not really count, however I still say vote, it does count in some small way and if nothing else, you cant bitch if you didn't vote right?

Both Obama and Romney set off my own personal 'Bull-Shit-O-Meter' many times.
The major difference between Obama and Clinton (IMO) is that Clinton knew how to work with Republicans when they took the House and the Senate after his first two years, and I think that is what got him re-elected.
Obama insisted on being head strong and trying to strong-arm his way through. He did somewhat, using executive orders, but that isn't a good way for someone who proclaims to be everyone's president to provide leadership.
When it's all over and done with, it's going to be the citizenry of this country that will suffer in the years to come, and not the Republicans and/or Democrats.

Exactly right. NONE of those happy motherfuckers in Washington will suffer AT ALL. They have health and retirement benefits that we pay for FOREVER. They aren't required to do shit to save for their own retirement, they can vote to give themselves just about anything they want, and most of them have lifestyles so far above the ordinary person that it's almost like they're on a different planet.

DeleteI trust NO media, no matter which way they slant. They lie, cheat and steal as much as the politicians who pay them.
I don't normally get into political stuff, but I had to note that with 8-9 million fewer people voting than in the last election (with a larger population), it appears many are deciding that not voting is the choice they have. I don't know if it is because they can't decide or they don't think it will make a difference.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad enough that many of the voters believe the lies the politicians tell, but I concerned that the politicians themselves are starting to believe them, too.
Let's hope they don't start doing robo-calls to ask who should run next...

My cousin works for a lobbying firm (I love her anyway) and she said it's utterly breathtaking to listen to some of these guys speak. The biggest, most colossal lies spill effortlessly from them, the bigger the lie, the more convincing they look.

No answers here, but I always love your political posts. Maybe I should link them to the Facebook pages of some relatives who are so strident about their political views, along with a gentle request to SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY.
