You need a coffee filter, water color markers or food coloring, a spray bottle of water, a sharpie, aluminum foil, decoupage and a brush, and some tape/construction paper.
Draw a design on your coffee filter with the sharpie.
Color it with the water color marker or drop food coloring drops in random spots on it until it's sort of colorful.
Mist with water.
Let it dry.
Put it on a sheet of foil and decoupage.
Let it dry.
Flip it over and put it on another sheet of foil.
Decoupage the second side.
Let it dry.
Peel it off, frame it with some construction paper and hang it in your window with tape.
The project I am putting here was done out of order, I colored the filter first for another project that I never did, and grabbed it on my way out the door to work, but otherwise, that's pretty much it.
Easy. Can be done with little preparation, little supervision, and not much expense.

ReplyDeleteMy hubby liked it, but he had all sorts of ideas on how to make one 'better'. I offered him some craft supplies because of his enthusiasm, then he decided he didn't want to make one. :)

ReplyDeleteIt is a fun project because even the little ones can make it look good. I love projects that everyone can do, although many kids choose not to do the project, unfortunately.

Ok Keilee and I don't understand the aluminum foil part. You decoupage the aluminum foil on the back and front of the colored filter?
ReplyDeleteThe foil is just your work surface. Decoupage STICKS to whatever you use it on, so you have to use something that will peel off easily. DO NOT try using waxed paper!! :)

DeleteBeautiful! I was actually thinking of you the other day. When Youngest was little he went to Head Start and since they are federally funded, well, there's no money for anything.
ReplyDeleteOne of the teachers bought a bag of rocks (medium size for driveways) from Home Depot, got a glue gun and let the kids glue creatures. Eyes were drawn with black sharpie (although some got google eyes) and tufts of fur were used for hair.
I still have youngest's "stone man" in my kitchen window.

I have some rocks I got ages ago at the dollar store for the balloon weights for my parent's 50th anniversary party. They were in little net bags, which I covered with fabric and tied up with tons of ribbons. Turned out great... and then I had all those rocks. We make 'rock critters' every fall. The kids love it.
