What do YOU do on a day off?

If you're me, the first order of business has to be sleeping in. Since I ordinarily get up at five (have I mentioned that??) I relish the opportunity to sleep a bit later.

Friday was a budget reduction day in our local school district, which meant that not only was my school closed, all the other ones were, too, and there was no facility for us to hold a non-school day program.

It would be a lie to say I didn't want to take the day off.

I love, love, love my job, but it IS nice once in awhile to not have to rush out the door to be there on time.

I slept in until 8:30. Well, sort of. I had to get up and pee around five, but that doesn't really count since I immediately went back to sleep in a nice warm bed, next to a nice warm man.

I sort of woke up when he got up to get ready for work, but he closed the door and was really quiet and I drifted back off. I'd probably have stayed in bed longer, but I had to get up and shower etc for lunch with a friend.

Now reality has hit.
I was out.

Not home, looking at the mess and thinking about the housework and the things that need tossed out the door to send to Goodwill.

And I got home, took a look around the house, said holy shit what a mess and sat down at my computer. Priorities, ya know.

Then, I was pondering the pantry. There's not a whole lot of food just lying around, we haven't done the weekly grocery shopping yet, and even though 'they' say you shouldn't go grocery shopping when you're hungry, they weren't here to stop me. So I did.

I managed to remember most of the things from the list I left sitting on the kitchen table, but paper towels will have to happen on Saturday.

Dishes, laundry, cooking a meal... rounded out the day. Feeling domestic.

With the hours I keep, my share of the housework/cooking/whatever mostly doesn't get done. I'm either wanting a nap or done at the end of the day and wanting to SIT.

Eric does quite a bit of the cooking, he's good at it and enjoys it, but we're starting into the warm season, prime time for actual paying landscape work, and I will either have to start planning more crock pot meals, eating more scrambled eggs or rely on peanut butter sandwiches for sustenance if I'm not able to cook.

The spring break schedule came through company email on Thursday. I will not be getting up at 5 all week. I will not be closing all week. I will be working in the middle of the day, able to sleep until at least 6:30 most days, even 8 on some others. A gift. :)

Such weird weather. Snow Thursday, 51 and sunny Friday, although it was pretty cold Friday morning.

I talked to my mom on Thursday night and told her about my kids saying I saved them, just like Jesus. And of course her possible virginity. She didn't comment on that part. I don't know why.

I really need a haircut. Sometimes I idly wonder if I shaved my head, how long would the hair take to grow back, and would it be a different color? I'm starting to see a LOT more gray, although the color of my hair hides it better than some. Still not willing to think about dye, though.

Unless it's tie dye. I have the biggest urge to get out the supplies and do some stuff. I keep almost doing it, then thinking about how much work it is, how time consuming and labor intensive, and saying 'later' to myself.

So I guess this all means that on my day off, I slept, ate, thought and typed.
Don't you wish you were me?

  1. On my days off I try to sleep in at least a little - an hour or two at most. Feed animals, drink coffee, do the computer surfing then breakfast/brunch about elevenish. Possibly a nap after that, then cleaning whether inside or out. Dinner and off to bed.

  3. All my days are off, so unless something comes along to upset my applecart, I get to sleep the hours I choose. I don't envy anyone having to get up before their body tells them to. I did it for decades, but not by choice.

  5. Ahh, sleep is my favorite thing to do. I could not function on your schedule, even before I became disabled. So catch some when you can, Of course having lunch with friends is another favorite activity of mine, so I say have fun with that as well.

Being disabled gives me a pass on many domestic activities. They get done when DH feels like doing them. I have to be okay with that, and usually I am.

Being unemployed still, all my days are off. And yet I *still* can't manage to keep up with housework and laundry and whatnot! Damn kids... always wearing clothes and making messes.
