The kids... AND the stuff they come up with.
I was talking to Penny* this afternoon outside when her older brother, Joe* came up to us to ask if he could go to the bathroom. After my 'yes' he ran for the building, only to come back out really fast.
Penny said respectfully, "Wow. He pees fast. He's sure not like his father! That man is a SLOW pee-er!"
And Penny's stance, tone of voice, and facial expression were just like her mom's. It was really funny. You know how sometimes I say how hard it is not to laugh? I didn't manage to keep a straight face this time and snorted. She looked at me innocently. "What?" she said.
Which made me laugh more.
I am fighting with a headache, so I'm going to give up on messing with the computer for the night and go watch the inside of my eyelids instead.
I think it's especially charming when kids talk about stuff that may involve sexual characteristics but about which they have little real understanding.
ReplyDeleteOne of my nieces (I'll give no name, just in case this would somehow get back to her and embarrass her) was 6 or 7. She had received some education in the physical differences between boys and girls, but not much about the ramifications of such. Anyway, I was sitting in an easy chair in her parent's living room, at Easter one year, and she hopped into my lap. She contacted a rather delicate area of my anatomy by mistake. I winced, letting out a small under-the-breath "ouch".
She said, "I'm sorry, Uncle Jimmy. Did I step on your penis?"
How in hell do you answer THAT to a 7-year-old? Needless to say, the other adults in the room had to go to great lengths to stop from bursting out laughing at her remark (and, I suppose, at my extreme blushing.)
I'd snort too. Definitely chuckled here. :)
ReplyDeleteMy oldest granddaughter is just like her mother and that scares the crap out of me!
ReplyDeleteI would have a really hard time keeping a straight face, too. LOL
ReplyDeleteI would have roared! hope the headache is gone soon
ReplyDeleteI have often thought that being able to pee quickly (and in any location) was a huge advantage of being a boy!
