Doesn't seem to be inspiring me.
I am guessing it's time for one of 'those' posts.
Where I ramble. And say stuff that makes you go 'huh?'
Yes, I know. The smart assy among you are wondering how that's different from my usual.

Got things taken to work Monday morning for our spy/detective week.
Put them in the back room. With other stuff in the back room. The back room is pretty full already.
What was I thinking????
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I took a nap on Monday. I needed it, I think I woke up at the wrong stage of sleep at 5. Hate when that happens, seems to color the whole rest of the day.
But even with the lack of sleep and the nap that was over before I was done because I REALLY had to pee, I think I had a better day than the deer my parents hit with their car on Friday night.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mom had the injections in her spine, and they were heading home from the appointment. She sees a doctor in Central Oregon and they have to drive about three hours to get there.
So after a day of needles and pain and all, my dad was driving.
He wasn't going very fast, maybe about 35 he said, since it was dark and that's when the deer are out, and the deer just jumped right out in front of them.
About 2 grand worth of damage to the front of their Explorer. Airbags did NOT deploy. Neither of my parents were harmed. It wasn't a horrible jolt, Mom said.
I'm sure the dead deer would disagree.
Deader than a shitbug as my grandma used to say.

Reese* got a haircut over the weekend.
Makes him look like he's 12.
He hates it.
Or he DID hate it, until I told him that he looked about 12. Then, he preened. And I heard him ask several other kids, "Doesn't my haircut make me look older?"
Kids are funny.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eddie*, age 6, is having some social issues. He has a hard time making friends because he's impulsive, jumps into stuff that other people are doing, and sometimes he thinks it's a good way to join in by doing little impish things to get the attention of the other kids.
He's a neat little kid, he just isn't great with social skills yet.
He's been working on it.
On Monday morning, some of the other kids were building a marble run. He walked over, watched a minute, then said politely, "Can I play, too?"
The other kids said sure, and he joined them.
Elizabeth* (also age 6) came and sat next to me a little later.
"I think someone is teaching Eddie manners," she said, thoughtfully.
:-D
I have to go buy more peroxide today. I played with the science experiment a little too much, but I wanted to make sure it would all work according to plan.
We tried several different bottle sizes and shapes. And different colors. And once I tried it, I had to do it again. Because it's sort of cool and I still really haven't grown up.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I helped Joe* (another of my 6 year olds) make a mustache out of yarn on Monday.
Part of our spy week stuff is for them to make a disguise and get their photos taken. He used white boucle yarn. It is hysterical to see it on him, I wish I could show you.
When I offered him a piece of masking tape to attach it he said, "Well YEAH... I wasn't gonna STAPLE it on!!"
A lot of my kids have become sort of smart assy.
I'm a professional bad influence.
I'm also ready to brush, flush and wash. Because I get up at 5.
Have I mentioned that?
I'm glad you're folks are ok, deer can really do a number on the car and its occupants.
ReplyDeleteWow that sounds scary to hit a deer. I almost hit one here in GA a few winters back. I think I only got his back leg because I heard something hit my car but his body cleared the road before I could hit him or slam my breaks too hard and careen out of control.
ReplyDeleteLove the way.... you write about "your kids." You get me chuckling cause you take me right into the classroom with you. Literally speaking, of course! For those eyes that aren't here FOR YOU, I feel the need to explain that. :0(
ReplyDeleteI live in MA.......kapeeeeesh!
Know you have heard this before......but you truly could write a book about "your children". Little snippets to chuckle a wider audiences. I've read one on that idea. It was written by a bunch of different teachers. Each wrote about an experience with a student of their own. Enjoyed it much, one story at a time. :0)
(((hugs)))Pat
Glad to hear that your parents are ok! Hope all is well! Take care!
ReplyDeleteGlad your folks are OK. Fun that you were enjoying your experiment too much and need more supplies! You are a treat!
ReplyDeleteGlad your parents are fine! I bet that was crazy scary. I mostly don't like naps. I always wake up feeling like warmed up crap as my Mother always said.
ReplyDeleteI checked out that Elephant Toothpaste experiment. Looks so cool. Post pictures so I can see it please. :) Love your 'kid' stories so much!
I am 45 years old and still am not great with social skills either. I should hang out with Eddie*, maybe he can teach me some.
ReplyDeleteI am so looking forward to hearing about Spy Week since I had a little hand in coming up with it! Photos!! (I know, without kids)
ReplyDeleteI have decided to be more OUT there on my blog. No more peace making Portia!
Well, I don't mind uninspired posts
ReplyDeleteat all
I love your Elizabeths and Eddies and other cool girls and boys - I'd levee even more to be able to bring my children to you for some activities
and also for some "social skilling" - someone could use some of that
and I'm not a great teacher
so I come and get inspiration here - thanks for sharing it all with us as well!
good recovery/rest to you and the parents
Glad your parents weren't injured! Years ago, my folks hit one and totaled their car. They were very fortunate they weren't injured, either, since they were in a small Subaru.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just hate when a perfectly good nap, or sleep, is interrupted by the need to pee!
