But I don't have a lot to report about today's hearing.
At least you're getting purple prose. :)
The opposing attorney doesn't look like an ogre.
He didn't roar like one, either.
I mostly saw the back of his head, (white hair, some hair loss but there wasn't enough light shining on it to make the glare bothersome) since I chose not to sit at the attorney table.
I sat in the row of chairs along the back of the room, holding hands with Eric and trying to remain calm and focused and centered on the fact that regardless of how things turn out legally, I have an amazing husband and family and that life is pretty decent.
I have a lot of impressions and observations, but until things are more resolved, I won't be putting them here. He made an indirect reference to my blog that only Eric and I caught, although my attorney is aware of them reading here and passing on things they have read.
I'm sure some poor schmoe who works in their office is required to read here every day and see if I've posted photos of myself water skiing or something equally stupid.
I'm sorry, Schmoe, I hope that I'm not totally boring you. I've been told that I'm not bad as a writer, and mostly that's true, but if the subject matter of my life (day care and craft projects, occasional political post and something edgy like my recent post about blister packs for medication and the possible consequences I'd like to visit upon the inventor) isn't something you'd find interesting, it won't matter how well I write about it.
If you care to leave a comment and introduce yourself, I'll include you in the drawing next time I tie dye some shirts and socks.
Anyway.
There was some legal wrangling that really didn't have a lot to do with the case at hand but rather was tossed out there to confuse the issue(s).
I know that at this point, no one except for me and mine even care about whether or not I was injured, whether or not I still have pain, and what my future looks like. It's all a legal game, played with relish by those on both sides, with very little thought about the fact that there's an actual injured person in the middle of all of it. Future? What future?

(My immediate future looks like a slide show on the inside of my eyelids, I haven't slept for shit all week, partly because of legal events and partly because I'm running another low grade fever, one of the curses of working in a germ factory.)
So I was not asked for a statement, merely answered a few questions about my injuries and their outcome, and was told that I was finished.
I believe there was more time spent off the record, sorting papers and restacking files and making sure everyone had copies of everything than there was in actual legal hearing time.
We were out of there in enough time that I could have gone out to my job, but only for an hour or so, and since I made a point of letting Michelle* know that I trusted her to do just fine and manage everything that needed to be managed, would have been impolite at best. I'll have to wait until Monday to hear about how things went, because texting and asking her would be equally impolite.
So instead, I changed into some more comfortable clothing and Eric and I went and did the weekly grocery shopping. We also ran to Sally Beauty supply and picked up some kick-ass peroxide. No, I'm not going blonde and brassy, it's for a science experiment that we're going to do during spy week.
I wanted to get the stuff assembled and make sure how well it would work, how safe it is, how far the stuff will go as it foams up... have I mentioned I work with kids? No matter how much fun it might be, if I can't be 100% certain the kids will be safe, we won't do it.
So really, that's it for tonight. I am tired and don't particularly want to get any more run down, the last couple months of post surgical recuperation and working the split shift are a little more tiring than they would be if I were whole, ya know?
At least I don't have to mess with the grocery shopping tomorrow or Sunday... it's done. Yay.
I may even do some dyeing this weekend, although every time I say that, I end up NOT doing it. But I want to make a few new things...as if I don't have enough of them.
I also need to plan out a little more stuff for Spy Week at work.
So I won't be bored.
OH! I can guess what you're doing with the peroxide! I hope you get a chance to do it so you can tell us about it!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad for your sake the hearing is over. You know your readers care (well, except for the ones at the attorney's office). Have a restful weekend.
You need some (((HUGS)))
ReplyDelete(((hugs)))Pat
Wishing you a great weekend and sending you lots if squishy hugs.
ReplyDeleteHope you hear something soon. The waiting would drive me nuts. Rest up! Spy week sounds like a lot of fun :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, more hugs from here. I'd be worn down to a nub from what you're dealing with.
ReplyDeleterest well and enjoy your weekend with your amazing hubby!
ReplyDeleteI'm wishing you all the best with the legal wrangling. Regardless of how it turns out, won't it be kinda nice to have it over and not have to think about it anymore? The stress of it all has been torturous for you, I'm sure.
ReplyDelete"but there wasn't enough light shining on it to make the glare bothersome"
ReplyDeleteAww! That was very considerate of him! :)
It has been incredibly stressful. Adding the stress to the physical pain I've had for the last couple years hasn't been a good thing for me.
ReplyDeleteWhen the comp attorney found out I'd had surgery, they suddenly wanted to settle. It's not that I'm unwilling to settle, given the right incentive (and no, I'm not talking about money) but I wanted and needed to be able to at least show the comp attorney that I am a real person, not just a case number.
It's been a trip and a hell of a learning experience.
The attorney heard about your surgery and immediately wanted to settle because, in effect, it proved your case; I think you will be getting a nice settlement/or judgment. That's just my gut feeling. Sleep well, now.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to think you are taking this homeschooling a little far if you keep volunteering to be dissected!
ReplyDeleteI hope that once this crap is over, you get to go back to being the fun, healthy, love to do things with your kids person that you are and put it behind you with $$ to boot. It sucks when people don't see us as legitimate because that is too difficult to process. Given what I do for a living, I can never seem to reconcile the "loving, caring doctor" from TV with the 95% who really don't take the time to make sure they've done a history properly or listened to the patient.
And omg, don't get me started on the Lawyers Who Are Simply Defending the Downtrodden...
