Salty Watercolor Monsters

Another really easy project. Using watercolor (mostly paint, very little water) smear onto a piece of watercolor paper using a decent sized brush or large sponge on a stick. After all the paper is covered with color, mist lightly with a spray bottle to make sure it's uniformly damp, and then lightly sprinkle salt on your finished product.

Let it dry. At least overnight. Use the side of a popsicle stick to scrape the dried salt off, otherwise it gets in your way and annoys you.

Then, decide how you want your monster to be shaped. Using a marker, do a very abstract outline.

Cut out the resulting critter.

Decorate with sequins, feathers, yarn, googly eyes and whatever else strikes you. Mount on construction paper if you are allowed to touch the monster long enough to do so. Be prepared for kids wanting to spend the whole afternoon with their monsters, during reading time, outside time, and play time. (they liked it.)

We ended up using one of the paintings as a photographic backdrop for the Polar Bear on a bike... Steven* wanted a photo. Said it resembled the Northern Lights. :)
