Can't hurt.. might help. Ever hear that? I have said it on occasion.
And it was my feeling about acupuncture. I have since learned that it does help, and it has been instrumental in making my left knee feel better in the past month than it has since the surgery.
So I requested that the acupuncturist fax a treatment request to my surgeon for the right knee, thinking that since we aren't going to do surgery at this time (and I'd be thrilled to never have to go through surgery again, really) that acupuncture would be a helpful treatment to help me manage the
My surgeon had an emergency Tuesday morning and was not in the office for our appointment. I saw his assistant instead, although they did call and notify me first.
I've seen her before and I really like her. Feel very comfortable with her, actually. So I asked her if they'd received the request for acupuncture. She looked through my chart and found a note from my doctor that he 'does not prescribe that modality'.
Okay then. He wasn't there for me to talk to, but the assistant has had acupuncture treatments herself, and is willing to talk with him on my behalf and see if she can change his mind.
If that doesn't happen, I will have my care transferred to the doctor I saw for the 2nd opinion on my left knee. I'm still receiving acupuncture treatment on that side, and I know for sure it has been beneficial to me.
And if my surgeon isn't going to do surgery, (YAY) then I don't need to be wasting his time going to see him every month so he can continue prescribing PT.
Thing is, I want to make sure he doesn't think I am going away mad. If I do need surgery in the future, I'd prefer not to have an angry guy with a scalpel hovering over me while I'm asleep and helpless.
So I'm on hold until Friday, when the PA promised to get back in touch with me.
It just shouldn't be that hard to get the pricks I want.
I not touching that one! LOL! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI hate it when a doctor won't exercise EVERY option you'd like to make you feel better.
ReplyDeleteas for getting poked...
...I'm not going there either.
I know, I'm a wus. :)
Hey, there's a silver lining to this whole business! If your knees weren't so messed up you couldn't have written this post, and then we couldn't all be sitting here wondering if we should make comments about pricks, pokes, and hardness!
ReplyDeleteI am thinking about acupuncture for my son's back.
ReplyDeleteI KNOW I am not going to make a comment about pokes and pricks here! Someone SOMEWHERE would haunt me with them!
yikes! getting pricked with needles isn't my idea of a wonderful afternoon :/ haha
