Aw shit.

The dog hath shitted upon the floor IN THE HOUSE twice this week.*

This is not making her very popular.
We aren't disciplining her for it though, she really can't help it, I don't think.

The Monday incident was a small trail of poos on the way to the back door, ha ha back door, ah ha ha ha .. I think they just sort of... fell out of her. Oops.

Then, Tuesday morning, she crapped next to the bed.
Just one turd.
That Eric stepped in.
Barefoot.

Strangely, no one was happy about it.

Eric was sleeping and I was getting ready for work. I don't know if she tried to wake him up to ask to go outside, or if she just stood up and it fell out.

It was lovely to finish getting ready for work as the smell of dog crap filled the air in our little house.

Pretty cold outside as I was leaving, but the fresh air out there was nicer than the warm air in the house.

The shit is worrying me a bit, of course.
I don't want to have to make a decision to end the dog's life.

I will not have a dog who has to have diapers changed, however. Just... won't. In fact, if I ever get to the point of needing diapers, I hope someone will put me out of my misery.

Maggie is 14.5 years old, will be 15 in June, and I know that time is approaching. But I was sort of hoping that we'd wake up some morning and find that she died in her sleep. Not that I'm hoping she will die, but when she does, I don't want to be the one who made the decision, ya know?

We adopted a puppy a few months after we got married, and had him for five years. He was hit by a car. And I said I will never have another dog.

But then we had children. Matt wanted a dog soooo bad. So did Lyssa, in her 3 year old way.

Visited the local animal shelter one Saturday morning and ended up with another damn dog.

I love my dog, but it's just so hard to lose them. I do not want another one. Eric says he doesn't either. We'll see if we both can stick to that decision.

*And yes, I am aware of rules for grammar. I also like to disregard them. Dial 1-800-waa-aaah if you have a problem with it.

And not for nothin', but when I wrote the first line of this post, I had a sudden bathroom trip.

Left the first line up and crutched off to the throne.

Matt visited my computer while I was in the bathroom, adding this to the first sentence of my post:

Yea, and the lord spake, saying to her, "Thou shalt not shitteth upon my floor, for they who shitteth are among the last to be forgiven." So sayeth the lord.

  1. Your post has made my day. I can just imagine the happiness there was, when one stepped in the pooh.

I know how hard it is to make the decision to put an animal down. I had to do that 3 weeks ago. Still have moments when I want to scream and cry my eyes out. I say the same thing. no more dogs when my other two go. Hope you have a better day.

  2. I actually snorted when I read that last line! I must meet your kids one day!! Ph, and you, too, of course!

"No more dogs" lasted less than 2 months for us. We're so glad we got him though!

  4. Hah ha.. you are too much! I love coming here to visit you. We had 2 dogs put to sleep when I was a teen... they were 18 and 19 years of age. It's so sad when they get to that stage. :( If it makes you feel any better, we've been "babysitting" our son and DIL's new puppy, and she's been having a shit fest at our house too. LOL

  5. So sorry about the poop. We dealt with accidents for about a year with our 10 yr. old bulldog. Like you, we were hoping she would just die peacefully in her sleep. Literally, an hour after calling the vet and making an appointment to put her down, she went outside and died in the warm sunshine. And, I hated that dog but to this day, I can't talk about her without bawling my eyes out. Stupid animals.
I know Maggie is an important member of your family.

And, Matt's line is awesome! I'm glad you shared it with us.

  6. Poor Maggie. Our dog, Scout is 14 and we're facing a lot of the same issues. It's heartbreaking.

    LOL, Matt!

You guys are so funny! I hope it was just a small blip and the dog is ok. That is the hardest part of getting a pet. Knowing that someday you will have to say goodbye.

  9. Last year we had a big old dog who became both lame with arthritis and incontinent. I desperately wanted to have him put down, but my husband wanted nature to take its course. He had to do all the cleanup, and I had to live with it. I could just see the frustration in our dog's eyes. It nearly killed me. But eventually he died in his sleep, Thank God. Now he rests in peace in the back yard. It's so hard for me to remember him in his healthy days, though, and that's what I regret the most.

Your sense of humor can do only so much. Hopefully this is just a temporary gastrointestinal issue, and not an end stage issue. Good Luck.
