So physical therapy is actually not a picnic.
Yes, I'm sure you're surprised to learn that.
'Tis true.
It is at times quite painful and after a particularly busy session, can have lasting effects.
So tonight my leg is pretty sore. Not that I'm actually complaining, I know that it's better all the time.
And I still like Shawn, despite the misery.
:)

I talked to my family this evening.
Matt and Lyssa have seen their first fireflies.
We don't have them here in Oregon, or if we do, they're hiding because I've certainly never seen one here.
Poor Lyssie has a migraine that is not responding to the medication. I wish she were here at home so I could take her to the doctor and get her something else. Poor kid. I know what it's like to have a week long headache, and this one is shaping up to be just that.

Did I mention that my leg hurts? Well, it does. I actually had to take an extra pain pill because the first one did, well, nothing.

I am not sleeping all that well at night. Last night or rather this morning at about three, I had to get up and add water to the fish tanks in the living room. I could hear the waterfall from the filter on the back of the tank and it was driving me bugshit. Didn't help that I'm leaving a couple lights on at night (don't like the dark) and the one in the laundry room for some reason was driving me nuts.
I finally got up and turned that one off.

Poor Maggie is obsessing over the family being gone. She wanders around looking for them and looking forlorn. Around the time Eric usually comes home from work, she stations herself by the door so she can see outside. She waits until she's pretty sure he's not coming, then wanders dejectedly back into the bedroom and flops down next to his side of the bed, only to get up and pace a little more.
I am glad she is able to pace and obsess, since I thought for sure this week that we were going to lose her, but it does get a little old.

I mentioned the other day that I'm looking through craft projects for this school year and making some plans for things for the kids to do. They so enjoy creative things. There just isn't enough time in a school day for them to just relax and make things. I love that I can provide an opportunity for them to do that.
I found this idea at Family Fun.
Aren't they cute? I am now on the lookout for little tiny animal pictures and/or stickers. I'm sure I can find some great stuff at the scrapbook store and at Goodwill.

What's your favorite, cheap, done in one sitting craft project for kids?
I love new ideas.

And now, I am going to sleep. Actually being awake at this time of night for several nights in a row has made it almost routine.
Counting the days until my family comes back...
I. Am. Mental.
Sorry about your leg. I hope you're better before school starts!!! How will you do?
ReplyDeleteWhat I liked to do, and the kids did , too, is take the strips of preglued paper (you know, like post it notes) and cut them into little squares. Then, the kids would draw a picture with black crayon, on a white background, and they'd fill in the white spaces with the squared preglued construction paper. it was really pretty when it was done.
REST! REST!! And REST~~ I hope you and Maggie can get a good nights sleep soon :(!
ReplyDeleteI know I would not be able to sleep well with everyone away. :(
ReplyDeleteI am happy to hear your leg is mending. You have such a great attitude towards the pain. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI love those magnets. I picture using pretty scrapbook paper in the centers.
I have not heard from my runaway kiddos. They are in a remote place with spotty cel phone service so I am assuming no news is good news. Our Lucy is stressed about her pack not being together as well.
I'd sleep like a log with everyone away (you try living under the same roof of four teenagers, with all the strays they bring home)! The only easy crafts project Ive done in recent times is to show them how to constuct their own midnight sandwiches.. (sigh)
ReplyDeleteThat leg of yours sounds seriously painful, I hope the therapy pays off for all the agonies.
Sorry about the pain.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally drawing a blank on the craft thing. Truth be told, we don't really do crafts in my classroom, nor in my school. I'm sure you're shocked at that one! :)
Cute craft. Scooter brought home a picture frame made of the wide tongue depressor craft sticks with those glued all around it. Of course they're all in a plastic bag right now, because the teacher didn't use the right sort of glue, but I digress. It sounds like a fun craft. :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad Maggie's able to pace again, and I really don't miss the aquarium for that reason alone. I hated when the water got too low. Hated cleaning it, too.
Clever title.
ReplyDeleteArgh on the PT. I had it on my wrist years ago that I almost cut off [long story, stupid accident]. But it is so worth it. My doctor said he didn't think I would ever use my hand again. But I worked my butt off!
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE the bottle caps. Why couldn't you have posted this LAST week. Kei has wanted some of these forever and I finally bought her some. $5 each! ;) We will have to do this craft. She has actually been getting drinks in bottles to save the tops.
Feel better!

Sorry physical therapy is sop tough and you're you're hurting. I know it's not fun. But keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteI am so not crafty but I'll ask my sister the school teacher if she has any fun projects to pass on.
Hang in there.

Ok, I'll try to explain my craft project, but I'll probably have to photograph and send it to you. We found it in a craft book.
ReplyDeleteIt is a paper bag gingerbread house. Take a lunch bag, stuff it with newspaper or other such stuffing, fold the top over twice (like you just filled it with pb&j) and staple. Then take half a sheet of brown construction paper, fold and half and staple on like a roof. Cut out windows and doors from another color construction paper and glue on. Decorate with markers. They are really cute and really easy. (We actually prepared these, but didn't staple, took them apart to decorate while they were laying flat, and then reassembled. But we're anal like that.)
Off to take photographs to e-mail you, as I'm sure this makes no sense whatsoever.
Hope you get some rest soon, and the legs eases up. I like the bottle caps .All I can think of is painted rocks , or later in the fall you can make a pointsetta decoration out of pumkin seeds and paint it , but it is a bit fiddly . Pop bottles can be cut to make flowers , (i will try to find the pattern)
