Catch up post...

Monday we had Steven*.
He behaved okay, but I did catch him watching me to see if I was keeping an eye on things.
Every time he looked my way, I looked back at him.

I'm guessing he'll behave this week. I can tell he's on his best behavior.
But I'm thinking Monday of next week will be the day he loses it. (just a prediction based on six years of working with kids ... )
Do I want that to happen?
No.
It will cause him grief at home and be a pain in the ass for me.

But I also DO want it to happen.

The entire flow and energy level of the program is changed because he is there, and I don't like him very much. It's like I'm just holding my breath the entire time he's with us. I'd really like for him to be somewhere besides my group, sad as that sounds.

The boy needs serious professional counseling. I can't tell you what we talked about, but I had a long chat with mom last week, and also spoke with our principal. Things are not good with him. He's not okay. It makes me sad a little, and scares me for him and for the people around him, especially a few years down the road. It does not look good.

::sigh::

On to better stuff.

Today (Monday) is the beginning of "teacher appreciation week."

I was touched when Logan* brought me a huge bouquet of flowers and a little note this morning. He walked in the back door carrying two huge bouquets, one for me, one for his classroom teacher.

Determined to carry them himself. It was so cute, I could barely see his little face between the flowers.

He is six, and dictated this note to his mom:

"Dear Susan,
I hope your knee gets better.
Thanks for being my teacher.
From,
Logan"

So I have this huge bouquet of flowers on my kitchen table now. It looks like Spring.

Today ( the day this posts) is Tuesday.
First trip down to the new location to see Shawn. We get to work on the knee today... and knee and shoulder both on Thursday.
I am not worried about driving there now, I know I'll find my way okay despite the 'help' I got from my man.
:)

Wednesday and Thursday, Lyssa is coming to work with me to help teach the kids how to tie dye.

(note to self... go buy some damn t-shirts in case kids/parents forget... save the receipt, if they don't get used, take them back. You do NOT want any kids to be left out.)

When we did tie dyeing at our summer program last year, I had to wake Matt up after he'd worked a graveyard shift and ask him to go to buy some t shirts because there were some kids who forgot, even after all the reminders.
He very sweetly did so.
I reimbursed him, but those few parents never reimbursed ME.
Hmph.

No matter. The kids were happy with their shirts and it was worth the $20.00.

I have invited the teaching staff at our school to join us at our tie dye party. I don't know how many of them will show up, though. We shall see. One approached me today to talk about bringing a little Onesie and a blanket to dye. She's expecting a baby in August. I told her to go for it.

:)

Thursday is another PT appointment, but I'll know for sure by then that I can find my way down there and back, so no worries.

Friday... there's some damn thing on Friday but I can't remember what it was.

Some damn thing besides work, I mean.
Which happens every morning and every afternoon.

32 more 5 AM wake up calls, not that I'm counting.
Yahoo.

Okay, off to bed. I'm a half hour late getting there already.

  2. So sad about Steven. Wow, he is so young to have something happen (which is my guess) to bring on this behavior. Poor Kid. Although for your sake I hope he gets out of the program soon!

    Good luck with the knee!

That's so cute about Logan. James has been madly preparing for Mother's Day this year, which is especially cute as it's always been a day of tension for him (and therefore me).

So far, he's made me a necklace (piece of yarn with a dollar bill strung through - Bling!) and cleaned my room (according to him, way easier to clean than him, practically clean already).

    So huggable.

  4. So sad about Steven, hope there is some way he can get help (if there is help for him) You sound like a great caregiver , wish I had had someone like you for after school time

  5. The tie dyed onsie and blankie hit my "awww" zone.

    Logan was really sweet.

I really hope Steven gets help. It is both sad and scary that there are kids out there who desperately need help but never get it. I hope he isn't one of them.
