Physical therapy got canceled on Tuesday. So I had nothing to do before my appointment with the doctor at 10:30.
So Lyssie and I went to Goodwill.
I almost always find something I want or need there, but I got NOTHING this time!! I was tempted by some bright yarn, but I still have a lot of yarn in my shed. I don't need it. Just wanted it. So I didn't buy it.
The kids can make do with the mostly subdued colors we have until I find a screamin' deal on some of the brighter stuff.

Visited Dr. Dirtball on Tuesday.
I have a skin tag near my right underarm, and every once in awhile, most notably about a week post-surgery, the stupid thing gets irritated and inflamed and swollen and hurts like hell.
So I went in and asked her to remove it.
She said what she ordinarily does is just clip them off. No numbing or anything. That it hurts a bit, but most people prefer that to having a shot.
I thought it over and I asked for the shot. At this point, I am not afraid of needles anymore. I've certainly been poked and prodded with enough of them. I've reached the stage where I actually watch with fascination when I have to have blood drawn or an IV inserted.
How weird is that?
Oh. I'm wandering again.
So I said, "I've been hurt/surprised enough lately. I don't want to take a chance that I'll jerk the shoulder, either. I really dislike surprises."
Have I mentioned that here before?
;)
So she stabbed me with a needle (it really didn't hurt much at all, actually) and clipped a chunk of me off. Then touched it with a bit of silver nitrate. (I think that's what she said.)
So I got that out of the way.
Nice to be rid of it. Stupid thing won't bother me again.

Tuesday marked 13 weeks post-surgery.
91 days.
And Monday night, I slept in my own bed next to a warm man.
I like that. After more than 29 years, I'm accustomed to sleeping next to him and I miss him when he's across the room from me while we sleep.
I paid for sleeping in my bed on Tuesday with a slightly higher amount of discomfort than I usually have, but not enough to keep me from trying it again.
It was uncomfortable at times, I woke up about 12 times, I still can't get the arm in the position I most prefer, but I was warm, I was lying down and I will be sleeping there when this posts, too. I am done sleeping in the chair.
I hope.

Monday, Liam* decided it would be okay to say 'Fuck' when Bailey* asked, "What's the F word?"
As if she didn't know... Tuesday she informed everyone at the table that you can do "this" (imagine little blonde girl flipping everyone off) and it means the same thing as the word!
I've been talking to kids and parents a bit over those things.
::sigh::

Also on Monday, my assistant was sent to another school, despite the fact that our numbers were projected to be more than the requisite 15 kids, which makes a second staff member mandatory according to state law.
I did not know she was going to be sent to another school, though. I'm still not clear about how it happened. Usually someone consults me regarding number of children and lets me know that she won't be with me that afternoon.
NOT this time.
I arrived 15 minutes early for work as I always do. I start working the minute I get there, but I'm off the clock until 2:10. That's the only way I can get done with everything in time for kids to arrive.
Yes, I know. It's a shitty way to run a railroad.
And I don't have to do it, but it's worth it to me to have everything set up and ready when kids show up. Things are much more relaxed and I'm not harried and hurried. I have time to greet all the kids, find out how the math test was, or the field trip, or the lunch with the principal and still get them all signed in and accounted for while fetching pencils or staplers or tape or beads or special legos or big pieces of paper.
I kept one eye on the clock while setting up, and about five minutes before kids were due to arrive (where WAS my assistant???) I left to go to the closest restroom. And found it out of order.
I did not have time to head down the hallway to another one, so I figured once Shelly arrived I would just go.
Only she never arrived. And I had to pee from about 2:10 until 6 PM.
I was not a happy glorified babysitter.

I also learned this week that many of my replies to your comments, which I thought were being sent directly to you via email are actually going into cyberspace and just... floating away.
So I'm sort of wondering.
Do you care if you get answers?
I'm thinking I'll just start replying here in the comments section. Maybe at the end of the day so I can reply to everyone at once.
I love my comments and my commenters, and I think it's only courteous to reply to you all.
So what do you say? It would mean that you'd have to check back to see if you get an answer, but it also means that if you're not interested, you DON'T have to... and I won't know either way.
Okay, I talked myself into it. I'll reply here.

Now, I am going to shower and to bed.
Yes, BED!!! Not CHAIR.
B-E-D!!!!
Yay me.
Does your husband know you are sleeping next to " a warm man"? I sure hope so!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get a new assistant soon!
i'd rather get an email, but I'm too lazy to look back, plus you're in my reader now, so when you post a new message it pops up instead of me having to go to yours and everyone else's blogs 4 or 5 times a day (yes, it was a huge time waster, and I am free to do a lot more now)...
ReplyDeleteHooray for sleeping in the bed!
ReplyDeleteBoo on having to pee that long!
We watched The Christmas Story (it's rated PG but probably before PG-13, the kids swear a lot). The kid says the F-word but it's changed to Fudge and James asked incessantly what the F word really was. He's just old enough to find the movie funny and pay attention. Great.
James is also scared of needles and Dr.s He asks everytime we go if he's going to get a shot. The H1N1 vaccine was thrilling - waiting in horrid lines to get a shot. Glad you got it taken care of.
So glad you can now go to bed instead of chair! Yay!!
ReplyDeleteNo more irritated underarms. Woot!
Hope the closest restroom is in working order today, and that you get your assistant back.
Just in case you don't, please don't forget the words of mothers everywhere and make sure you 'go' before you leave the house. You don't need a UTI on top of everything else. It would totally distract you from these wonderful episodes that you share with us each day...of digit extending children and manipulations. I mean..think of us! What we we do without you each day?
I'm so happy you're sleeping in the bed next to your (very) happy hubby!
ReplyDeleteBaby Boy had some sort of mole/bump thing removed once and the dermatologist did it so darn quick that by the time Baby Boy said "ouch" the doctor had taken it off, cleaned the site, and was putting a dressing on it. Those doctors can sure be persnickety when they want to.
Baby Boy went through a juvenile cussing phase. It was hilarious, but I couldn't let him catch me laughing. He finally stopped . . and I started cussing in Spanish, so he wouldn't pick up any more of my bad habits.
Not that he got it from me or anything.
Reply to comments wherever you want. I may not get them the same day, but I'll eventually stumble across them. Or not. Whatever. We still love you. ;-)
Sabrina...my husband doesn't *have* to know about everything I do. Does he? I mean, do you tell your hubby everything?
ReplyDeleteJill, your email address shows up when you reply to my comments, so I will probably email you anyway...
Holly, A Christmas Story is one of my all time favorite movies. I think it's hysterical, and I watch it at least twice every holiday season.
Judy... I'm sure you could find a more worthwhile hobby than reading my blog.
Decluttering, perhaps?
Ahh Mom, my kids were able to swear in two languages from the time they could talk.
Now they can both do three.
Progress.
And being able to sleep in bed is awesome. I am definitely not taking it for granted yet.
It's lovely.
Go ahead and do it the way you want , if we click on "suscribe by email, we will get the comment either way without checking back.I do like the personal responses though
