Well, Eric and Lyssa made a lovely Thanksgiving dinner. They even made pies, both pumpkin and apple. Everything was tasty and done just right.
All I had to do was show up.
By 7:00 pm all the dishes were done, the dishwasher had been run, and we were just waiting for the pie to cool a bit before eating it.
When I bake apple pie for my father in law, he likes to have it hot from the oven with vanilla ice cream over it. But Bob doesn't come for Thanksgiving anymore, and I don't usually bake pie when he's here in September when school is starting and I'm swamped.
I've been faithfully doing my arm and shoulder exercises, started some interesting ones with a pulley system... trying to get that arm moving without moving it. I know that sounds weird, but I'm not supposed to use the arm to move itself. I'm supposed to use my other arm for that. Not as easy as you'd think.
I am NOT shopping today. There is not a bargain in the universe good enough to get me out into that mess. No no no no no. Not in a million years.
Matt works in a retail store. He will be there for five hours getting things ready for the store to open, and three hours while people are shopping.. He said it's just crazy. I believe it. I see the news footage every year.
Can you believe there are some people who make it a family tradition to go shopping at 5 AM for the deals?
Ack.
So I will not be going anywhere today. Again.
But next week sometime, I am going to drop in at work and say hi to 'my' kids. I miss being there.

Is there a deal 'hot' enough to get you to go out and brave the craziness?
I'm afraid that after a jaunt like that, I wouldn't have any holiday spirit... ever.
Oh. And this is my 1300th post.
My husband forgot to shut off his alarm at 4, so I'm awake, and there's the baby making her first stirring. If she stays awake, we are going to walmart, but only because we are up!
ReplyDeletei do go shopping. this year, we were at our first store by 4 a.m. we hit 4 others before 8. there is usually not any one thing i have to have, i just enjoy the people watching and the day "out". in fact, my post from yesterday was about my usual shopping on black friday.

ReplyDeleteI'm not going shopping. In fact, I'm going to read a few blogs and then read a few chapters of my book and then have a little leftover turkey sandwhich and then maybe watch some tv.
In other words, I'm taking the day off. of. everything.
I'm glad your arm is better. Keep working it without working it . . . so you can really work it in a few weeks. ;-)
I went shopping today. Hubby said out of the blue last night "I was looking at dishwashers online this week. How about you go buy one?"

Mind you, it isn't Black Friday in Canada and there was only one other car in the parking lot of the store I went to this morning.
If I lived in the States, FORGET it. There is no way I would be going out shopping today.

I generally avoid major shopping anyway, but especially today. It hurts my brain & heart to see/hear people behaving like such lunatics.

Fuck no, I'm not nutty enough to brave the violent crowds. I did it once . I was at Sears at 5 am one year to get a leather jacket half off and I still wear it every winter. Best $50 bucks I ever spent but I'm not doing that again. Goodwill and the Salvation Army have killer deals too....almost every day!!

I was one of the crazy people who stood in line. I went with a friend, we got there at 1 AM, and stood in line for 6 hours..
ReplyDeleteI went for a TV. Ian has wanted a new flat screen TV for years. I refuse to pay the crazy prices. They ended up having a great deal ($1000) off. So I went. Will NEVER do it again, and would NEVER even think of doing it in the states. Here at our little NEX everyone was nice, and it was semi-organized..
Hubby and I wet to Target about 10 am....we each had one thing we wanted to find..and both of us got the LAST ONE OFF THE SHELF!!! Amazing.

I'm with you, there isn't an item on this planet worth getting up and driving in the cold in the middle of the night to get. I won't even get up to go online to purchase something at that hour.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 1300th post. I am halfway behind you. I wouldn't go shopping if we had that here. I think it is crazy and I even try to avoid shopping when it is getting close to Christmas. Unfortunately we still need some groceries. Glad you had a good Thanksgiving and you didn't have to make it. That would be a great gift. Although I like to do the cooking, it is the cleaning I am not fond of.
