Don't homeschool! part 6 of 10

5. As a teacher, homeschooling kind of pisses me off. (That’s good enough for #5.)

For God's sake WHY??? Why on earth would you take my choices personally?

It's not about you at all!
("Arrogant? Table for one!")

This is the same tired bullshit that I've heard in various forms ever since we started homeschooling.

What I choose to do doesn't mean I disapprove of what you choose to do. My choices are not, and never will be, a commentary on the choices other people make.

Let's clarify here.

My choice to homeschool isn't a commentary on any choices you make for your family, including, but not limited to:
Your choice to send your children to public/private/parochial school.
Your choice to teach in one of those places.
Your ability to raise your children properly.
You personally.

I don't give a fart in a windstorm about the educational choices you make for you and yours.
Why should I?

I accept that some children thrive in school (while being morally certain that many kids would do better in an alternative setting).

And that's fine. Good for you. Good for them.

My kids, my choices, my life, my thing.
Your kids, your choices, your life, your thing.

Easy.

  1. Aren't the childless ones always the ones who know more about raising kids than actual parents???

I hate getting parenting advice from friends who are just regurgitating what Oprah said to them.

  3. Said so eloquently. I love the 'fart in windstorm' analogy. I also love how you said, "My choice to homeschool isn't a commentary on any choices you make for your family..." What a great way to say it.
