Bouncing

My thoughts are bumping around like the big steel ball in a pinball machine. If I don't spew them all out here, I'm likely to tilt and then where will we be?

My good friend Tami is having a medical procedure on the 29th. It's on my mind quite a bit. At least four times a day at last count. I woke up thinking of her again this morning, as a matter of fact.

It's not my story to tell, so I won't, but any good thoughts you have to spare would be lovely. Tami is a warm, generous person. She's kind-hearted and sweet and would do just about anything to help anyone, friend or stranger. She's due for some good luck.

Thanks.

I called Sprawlmart yesterday and ordered ONE Imitrex. I could have paid for a whole prescription, (nine tablets) but it would have run us a little short for the week. It seems that grocery prices are going up a bit lately, but maybe that's just me?

::snort:::

Besides, since I've just ordered a dozen pills from a Canadian pharmacy it would be a waste to get more than I need. I took another half a pill last night at bedtime, and this morning I don't have a headache.

I'm hoping I'm in safe territory hormonally now and won't need any more of them this month.

Lyssa got her permanent retainers a couple weeks ago. The upper one fits fine, but the lower has an edge that curls under and hurts her terribly. She said it cuts into her gums. I called them immediately but our guy has been out of the office and the soonest we could get in was today. She's been wearing the temporary one on the bottom and the permanent one on the top while she sleeps. She's been very conscientious about wearing them lately, which is nice.
I'll be heading up there to get that fixed in a few hours.

We'll stop at Winco on the way home so I can get some mustard. I buy a specific kind of mustard for the barbecue sauce I make. I cannot eat a commercially prepared barbecue sauce, since they usually contain large amounts of molasses, which is a migraine trigger. I'll be making some sauce for tonight's chicken.

The job I took the typing test for is on my mind, too.
I applied for a job as a 911 operator. The pay is good, the hours are bad, at least in the beginning. A person can expect overtime, holiday work, weekend and night work for a few years. I'm okay with all of that. I mean, it will probably be a pain in the ass on occasion, but I have the complete support of my family to do this. That has to make it easier, right?

Not so long ago I wouldn't have considered taking a job like this one because Lyssa was still too young for me to want to be away from her at night. Not that I want to be away from her at night now, but you get what I'm saying, right?

I sent in the application packet on the 3rd. The deadline was the 10th, and the next step in the process does not take place until the 27th. So I don't expect to have heard anything yet, but it's bothering me that I haven't heard anything yet. I mean they probably have 10,000 packets to go through.

I keep thinking about it.

There was no way to personalize the packet. It contained my typing certificate, a printable form to sign, a computer form with bubbles to fill in for my name, address, telephone, ssn and date of birth. I couldn't send a letter or anything. They need the D.O.B. to run a preliminary check on applicants. So now I'm stressing. I'm 47. Will they toss my application immediately because they'll think I'm too old? Or will the fact that I'm 47 and likely to be established and stable figure in my favor?

I have no police record. Not even a parking ticket. Ever. Surely that will count. If they check and don't just throw away my application since I am OLD.

And what if everyone else who applied can type like 100 wpm? Does that matter? How are they narrowing down the initial field since there was no way to personalize anything?

Should I have enclosed a piece of paper with PICK ME!! PICK ME!! emblazoned all over it?

Or a letter... Please pick me, I am a dedicated, hard worker, reliable and punctual and serious about any job I take on. Give me a call, you won't be sorry. Just call. Me.

I haven't visited a temporary agency to try to find something in the interim, either. I'm still just going to work every afternoon and thinking about going somewhere else to work.

I am waiting to see if anything happens with the 911 job. If it does not, then I'll be looking around a little more.

I woke up at 4 this morning and on my way back to bed after a visit to the bathroom, my brain woke up. I hate when that happens. I try very hard to keep my mind from actually starting up, but wasn't successful this time.

I was thinking about Lyssa going to visit my folks next month. Yeah, she's heading off to Butthump, Oregon for about two weeks. That seems like an awful long time to me, but she says she's up for it. I'll miss her. I need to get her a new charger for her cell phone, too. Her Whisker Grandpa took hers. I KNOW he did. But he hasn't owned up. At this point, I don't see it ever happening. Shit.

I was thinking about Matt, too. He's not sure what to do with his life and is angst-ing a little about it. I don't know what to tell him either.
But he's 21 and wants to be able to move out, and he can't see that happening just yet. It frustrates him, I think.

He is artistic, can do math, writes wonderfully, can actually think and reason.. that puts him above about 80% of the gene pool.

Speaking of the gene pool...
Last night as we were getting into bed, our bedroom was suddenly awash in blue swirling lights. There were police cars converging on our house from all over the place. They had a man and woman sitting on the curb
(which is about 12 feet from our bedroom.) out front.
While one officer interrogated them, another was searching with a big flashlight in our front yard for... something. He evidently found nothing, but you can bet I'll be looking under both cars and in between all the rocks out there this morning. They let the couple go, and finally got back in their cars and left about 10.

::sigh::

Oh, and the elections. My gawd, the elections. Our local homeschool email loop has heated up over the last couple days. Posts were flying fast and furious. I didn't read most of them, because my mind was made up a long time ago, and even if it weren't, rabid ravings from wackos aren't usually my main influence.

Can someone please explain to me how a vote against Obama is proof that one is a racist? I can see that in some cases it is, because many people in our society still think that skin color means something. But there are many people out there who aren't voting for Obama because they don't think he would make a good president.

Or how a vote against McCain is proof that one is not a Christian/is not moral/does not respect veterans yadda yadda? Personally, I don't have respect for philanderers. Yeah, I know that was his private life, but it does make a difference to me. I think someone who wants to be my president should have more integrity. Oh, and voting for McCain is just like voting for Bush again, according to many things I've read.
Whatever.

There are other factors in my mind against both major candidates, but I'm not going into it. I don't care how you vote, and you really don't care how I'm going to vote, either.

As for the VP candidates... well, no thank you to both.

::shudder:::

I was thinking about the elections because of all the email and blogging going on about it, but also because they won't leave us alone. We get at least one call every day. I look at the caller ID and don't answer, but the kids answer because they love it when Eric jokes with the person on the other end of the line.

Last weekend, he got a call from some lady, wanting his opinion.
Of course, all I can hear is his end of the conversation, but he said,
"Well, my opinion is that I don't call you at home on the weekend and I don't think you should call ME at home on the weekend!"

When she replied, "Well excuse me for living!" he called her a bad word, prefaced with the word 'stupid'.
This of course sent the kids into hysterics. Which is why they like to answer the phone when we get those calls.

I'm unshowered, my hair is sticking up all over, I have to go to the bathroom, I need to wake Alyssa up and we need to get out the door in a couple hours. It's time for me to stop.

Oh wait, one more thing.

I usually try to write something for my blog in the evening to post at 6:00 AM my time. If you check my blog in the early morning and there is no post, you can almost always assume that I had nothing to say until I got out of bed.

I started posting daily on October 23rd of 2007. Barring floods, fires, pregnancy, or computer troubles, I plan to keep it going until at least October 23rd THIS year. After that, who knows?

Should I still post daily?

After I post this, I'm adding a poll so you can VOTE and help me answer that very important question. You can remain anonymous. Most of you do anyway. Ha.

You must vote. Otherwise, you lose your rights to complain until the next election.

I'm de-lurking to send lots of positive energy to Tami and to encourage you to keep blogging. As a fellow (now former) hormonally-induced migraine sufferer, I relate and empathize (Imitrex was just coming onto the market as I headed down the hormonal off-ramp). As much as I enjoy the blog (it's part of my daily routine to check in with you) I also recognize there are maybe big changes coming (good luck with 411); it might be time for a break.

I'll keep checkin' back in hopes of finding you here, if not daily then at least frequently.

  2. My thoughts are with your friend Tami.

I hope you don't have any more migraines this month. I know how awful they can be!

I hope Lyssa gets her retainer fitted properly without too much difficulty!

Good Luck with the job situation. I think you will do well!

I always have a hard time shutting my mind off too. Can be quite annoying!

I hope Lyssa has a safe trip and that Matt will find something he enjoys doing and not be too frustrated trying to find out what it is.

Crazy about the police searching your yard. I hope you didn't find anything.

Ugh I am sick of the election. To be honest I don't like either of them myself. Can we have a redo? LOL.

If you don't blog everyday (might be hard if you get that new job) I would like to see at least frequent posts LOL. I enjoy reading your blog

  4. Good luck with the job! I am sure you will get it.

I will pop over and say a word for Tami!

As for the election, they are BOTH BAD! BAD! BAD! I do not want income redistribution, nor do I want God will in the presidency. I fear we are in for a MESS!

  6. Tami's heart and mind are just swimming with all the good thoughts and kindness being sent her way!! Wow. I think my darlin Susan is angsting more about this surgery than I am. I have high hopes that I will feel so much better, it will be worth every second.

Thanks for the love from everyone . . . I can feel it swirling around me like my own personal force field. And Susan, mi'dear, please post every day for as long as you possibly can. You are--in more ways than I know--my inspiration.
