Politics

KGW is one of our local showcases for breathless plastic people, otherwise known as a "News Team." I love smarmy (fill in the blank) Team stuff... most corporations I've worked for use that to make people feel a part of whatever they're doing. Of course, most people aren't that stupid, and recognize it for what it is. A feel-good tactic that means nothing at all.

Oops, I've digressed.

Okay.

We have this local politician, Mike Erickson. According to recent stories, he got a woman pregnant, drove her to an abortion clinic (stopped on the way to withdraw cash from an ATM) and dropped her off out front. It was seven years ago, and now that he's running for congress, she's talking.

I don't know if it's true, since I don't know him, I don't know the woman involved, and I'm not likely to meet either one of 'em.

I pulled this from KGW's website this morning:

Erickson, breaks silence, says he didn't pay for woman's abortion

Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Republican congressional candidate Mike Erickson has broken his silence over accusations he paid for a pregnant girlfriend to have an abortion in 2000.

MikeEricksonforCongress.org

The businessman says he dated the woman for a couple months and gave her some money to help with financial problems.

But he says the woman never mentioned anything about being pregnant.

He added that he has never asked any woman to have an abortion and has never knowingly paid for one.

I cut off the rest of the story, it's just more blah blah blah anway.

But I HAD to leave the link from the end of the story. Do you think they could have chosen any better wording?????

Also: Ore. Right to Life calls on Erickson to pull out

PULL OUT???? OMG. Little late, isn't it?

Edited to add:
The Portland Tribune says maybe Erickson should 'withdraw'. I'm sorry, I know the actual subject isn't funny, but do the people who write this shit actually THINK about what they're writing?????

  1. Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I can certainly appreciate the irony in that one. It's hilarious.

    I LOVE irreverent comedy.
