I go to my good friends Tami and Joseph for the chiro care... Joseph to hurt me while he makes me feel better, and Tami to be my moral support and laugh with me while I go OUCH!! OUCH!!! Hey! That hurts!!
Their kids were sitting in the living room. One of them said that I look 'skinnier'. Now I haven't asked his mother if she told him that I'm working on it, or if he just said it spontaneously. (consider yourself asked, Tami..) but it was.. surprising.
Tomorrow I'm going on a picnic with the spouse. We will hike a bit, throw rocks in the river, hang out and just be together without anything pressing.
I guess the last time we did that was August when we took the little camping trip.
Also for this weekend, TAXES. I need to file our return and Matt's. He will sit with me so he knows how to do them, but it's really pretty simple, otherwise I would not be able to do them.
In the news today, I read this little item: Teachers turn tables on disinterested students - The Denver Post
My feelings about public education aren't a secret, although I do think that some kids will do... okay, given the constraints of the mass education being served to them. Others lose their appetite early, and being forced to eat and then regurgitate on a test to prove they've 'learned' something causes some negative feelings in many. It's worse because they have to eat some leftovers every year.
What I really would like to say to the teachers from this school is that I understand how frustrating it must be to be told what you must serve, how much of it to serve, how often to serve it, etc... but you're not going to fix the problems by acting like, well, like children.
To the educrats who hand down the menu from on high... offer the kids something to eat that they're not TIRED of!! No wonder they're 'disinterested'! You can have the best, brightest, most compassionate teacher in the world... but if s/he is forced to serve crap daily... people will either stop eating or choose another restaurant.
Engage them! Offer them something RELEVANT!!!
Kids are pretty astute in noticing changes in peoples looks. We have to spend some time working on shuffling paper around here before tax time too.
ReplyDeleteSince I was asked . . . no, I did not tell Caspian to say anything . . I was as surprised by the comment as you (not because you didn't deserve it but because he commented). I later told him how sweet that was and he just grinned and said that it was true--and he know how much women liked to hear it. Raising that one right apparently. (grin)
ReplyDeleteAs for taxes, please don't mention that word in my presence. This year will kill us. I hate being self employed at tax time.
