Headaches, Heartburn and Homeschooling

Since giving up the diet soda ( I didn't drink soda with sugar, and have no plans to do so unless I'm dying of thirst in the desert and that's all that's available) I haven't had a HEADACHE.

I knew the chemicals are crap, but addiction doesn't understand things like that. I'll have to write you a post about the withdrawal. Yuck.

I have had headaches... a couple aspirin and they go away. Completely. But the HEADACHES that have plagued me forever and ever aren't happening. They ordinarily appear at a specific time in my cycle, and if I'm going to get one, it will be either tomorrow or Sunday. But I don't have that crappy feeling that's a precursor to a really nasty one. Does that mean I won't get one? I don't know. But right now, things are good.

I've had heartburn for a very long time. I've awakened in the middle of the night with acid in my throat, and suffered burns that last two or three days in my esophagus. Getting up at 2 a.m. and eating 35 saltines to try absorbing some of it is a treat I don't care to repeat, considering I've already done it so many times. I've had heartburn most of the time since I had Matt, really. I keep Rolaids by the bed and have a bottle of Cimetidine (generic Tagamet) in the cupboard.

Since I cut the calories, I'm not having it! How weird is that?

Now, as for the homeschooling part of this post.

I read many blogs. I read yesterday about reading time in one homeschooling family. It was hysterical.
Land of Our Fourmother: Story Time
Her blog has many serious things and points to ponder, too. I love reading there.

I'm sort of sad to be approaching the end of my official homeschooling years. What will I do now?

  1. I've cut back my caloric consumption and my reflux has gone away too. If I snack before bed now, I eat only fruit. It is a wonderful thing to be free from.

I will pass the caffeine connection to my sis who has terrible headaches too, but I bet she is not willing to try it.

  2. Oh no! You mean I have to give up soda to make my headaches go away? Why can't soda and snack food cure headaches? LOL!

Thanks for your kind words and the link.

I had to quit eating bread to get rid of my reflux. I suffered for years with it, and rather than eating crackers which made it worse, I have got up at 2 in the morning, washed an apple, sat on the couch and ate it, and gone back to bed after a couple burps with no more heartburn. I had heartburn in my pregnancies and in my last one, discovered the apple digests whatever my stomach can't. It has worked for some friends I have told, and not others. Anyway, I don't suffer much from it since I cut out yeast products; seems I am sensitive to them. I will have heartburn and even reflux if I eat rich food past 9 pm, on those very rare occasions when one goes out with the girls for cheesecake;-).

Glad you aren't having the headaches.

Went to check out the link, good post.

  4. Woohoo! I'm glad you are seeing such a huge improvement in your ailments. Soda is the Devil!! I've had a few since I decided too quit but the urge isn't there anymore and sometimes I don't even like the way it tastes when I do partake of one.

Keep up the good work, girl!
