You know the cartoon images of angry people with steam coming out of their ears?
That's the grumpy face being worn today by me on behalf of Deborah Markus, author of The Bitter Homeschooler's Wish List,(and owner/publisher of Secular Homeschooling Magazine, a new publication aimed at people just like me) which has really made the rounds on the internet.
I don't know any homeschoolers who can't find at least one item on the list to laugh at... for me, the whole thing was hysterical.
Well, apparently a homeschooler is receiving a lot of traffic on his site due to posting and failing to credit the author or link to her. You can read the story here, on her official blog: Diary of a Mad Editor: I'd Rather Be Hated Than Used .
I went to see the post in question, and although they link to Deborah's magazine, someone just reading through would see the name of a different person under the title.
Deborah has asked them to fix this, and they refused to do so, but did offer to give her a free advertisement on their site.
What a-holes.
That is crappy! I have to say that I purchased that first edition of the magazine and decided not to get anymore. I found it interesting that there was so much mention of being secular and taking the "religion" out of it and focusing on homeschooling ONLY and found that almost every article focused on being secular.

Have you gotten newer ones? Have the stories started to focus on homeschooling rather than being secular.
If so, I'll give it another try.
I don't subscribe to the magazine. Basically, although I don't know everything, we're sort of at the end of homeschooling rather than just starting, and I really don't need any sort of guide. (Well, maybe one for teen angst... but I digress.)
ReplyDeleteI subscribed for a year, and the second issue hasn't come out yet. I thought the same thing as robinella about get on with it and drop the secular in your face references already. I am hoping that evens out more in the coming issues.
