Well, we will have a tree.
I have advocated for a fake tree for years. No needles in the carpet (I don't care about the carpet, we bought this house because the carpet was already dirt colored... ha) but I hate getting the damn things in my feet. I hate the water mess, the sap on my hands, the spiders that crawl out and decide to raise their families here.. well, you know. And I really hate the idea of killing a tree just for fun. We don't even kill spiders here. We put them outside.
I was shouted down.
"But Mom! We always have a real tree!"
"It's not Christmas without a real Christmas tree, honey."
Now, Miss "I'm sorry I sound like a Greenpeace freak" says she can't take part in the murder of another tree. She wants us to get a fake tree. I shopped around for one last year after Christmas, thinking that they'd be cheaper then. They were. All three of them.
So I guess we're going to head out today and get a fake tree.
Eric says he's done with the whole Christmas tree mess, too, and doesn't care if we even have one.
Matt's working today, Lyssa still sleeping. We'll be getting the tree (whatever tree we get) as a team, sans children.
Another sign (sigh) that they're growing up.
Spiders?!? Holy crap I never even considered that problem. Eew. I've never had a real tree for Christmas in my whole life. Fake trees still lose some needles, and static electricity makes them hard to vacuum up. Another thing to consider is storage between Christmases. Assembly can be quite an adventure. So fake trees are not without their hassles either. There are some really pretty fake trees though. Good luck finding one you like, and be proud that you've saved the life of a tree this year ;)

We've always used fake. I love 'em. Splurge and get the prelit ones. I always hated wrapping the lights.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young we always had a real tree. When I moved out my parents bought a fake tree and have had it ever since. My Dawn doesn't do Christmas so we don't get any tree...however...don't send the Greenpeace people after us as we burn wood to heat our house and that takes trees...however we try to get the dead ones first.
