Sometimes I forget it, but there are really two men living in our house now.
Over the last 20 years, we have tried to make sure we are raising a thoughtful son. A boy who is kind, warm, and caring will be a man with compassion, feeling, and heart. A good person, husband, and maybe someday a father.
Yesterday, he went to the store to pick up some stuff to re-pot some plants. He has them in his room because if I get them, I'll kill them. The family green thumb skipped me and he got it instead. He was in a cheerful mood when he left.
When he came back about half an hour later, he looked so sad. When I asked him what was wrong, he told me that he had seen two birds 'dancing in the air, mating' and looking so happy, and the car that was coming toward him had hit one of them while he was on the way to the store. On his way home, he drove past the body, and the other bird was walking around its dead mate, looking very dejected.
He said, "I know it's just birds, but I felt so bad."
That's the kind of man we raised. I am so proud.
What a sweet young man you have raised!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! How sad. I think I would have cried all the way home. How wonderful that your son is so sensitive to what so many people would consider No Big Deal.
ReplyDeleteHe's going to make someone a wonderful husband someday. :0)
