Hi. How are your towels?

I put away my towels the other night. After they were all stacked in the cupboard, I noticed that they're a motley crew. I have an interesting way of doing laundry. One of the things I do is hang up the stuff that wrinkles as it comes out of the dryer. The stuff that doesn't wrinkle (underwear and towels, mostly) gets thrown in a basket to be dealt with 'later'. Later comes when we're out of underwear and/or the third time a wet person sticks his or her head out of the bathroom screaming for a towel.
(Hell, dry off with a washrag, ya whiner! That's what I did. Twice this week.)

So anyway, in my towel cupboard, things are kind of jumbled. I have some towels that were wedding gifts. 26 years ago. The wealthy half of my family certainly knows how to buy towels, huh?

I have some I got when Matt was a newborn, because I thought I'd need some just for him that weren't washed with regular laundry soap and that if they looked different than our others, I wouldn't get them mixed up. By the time Lyssa was born, I knew you could dry a baby with your t-shirt if you had to... with no adverse effects other than wearing a wet t-shirt.

I have some towels I bought about five years ago when our others were looking sort of threadbare.

I have a few that came from my grandparent's house in Colorado. I have three that came from my OTHER grandma's house, too.

Some of the towels currently in the cupboard are actually from our camping equipment, and didn't get put away after our camping trip in August. They just joined the group already in the house.

Our towels are a mixed bag. They don't match. They're all different colors. Some have a little bleach spot on them. Some are discolored from the acne medication my daughter used for awhile. A couple of the lighter hand towels are stained. No matter how many times I wash them, how hot the water is or how much bleach is in them, they don't look clean. So here's today's poll. Since I am technologically challenged ( I know just enough to be dangerous), you must either email me (
Wordcrunchers@gmail.com) or comment by clicking on comment, and select A, B or C. Poll results are not scientific, and may be as skewed as I am.

The question is:

Do your towels match?
The possible responses are:
A. Match what?
B. Hell no! I'm just happy if my socks match.
C. Don't everyone's towels match?

I'm guessing I'll get a lot of A's and B's. If you don't see an option you like listed, please feel free to comment YOUR way.

  3. I like A, but I must say, at our house, B is the ruling answer. And most the time, I can't find socks that match either!

  4. LOL My towels don't necessarily match in colors, but they're all the Walmart 3 dollar special. LOL They're big enough to almost wrap around me twice, which I love. They're not scratchy and their thick.

Now this only applies to the towels Jimmy and I use. The kids ahve their own towels that match nothing but themselves. LOL

  5. Two bathrooms, two different answers:

At our last house, the kids' bathroom was the one everyone used (other than dh and me.) So I bought 8 coordinating towels (4 each of 2 different colors) plus hand towels and washclothes AND bathmats AND a hamper AND counter accessories AND shower curtain AND even a trash can to match. *sigh* Straight out of Martha Stewart.

    Bathroom #2:
Mismatched but all thick towels: (1) Dark blue-almost-black towels for when the females of the house need towels which won't show red if you catch my drift.
    (2) White towels for Dad and for Mom's non-. days.
    (3) Few old ratty towels for wiping down dog when she's been outside in the rain
    (4) Few yellow towels that were my mother's that got mixed in with my laundry.
    (5) Assorted handtowels and washclothes I'd be unable to identify the source for.

So, like a nice parlor in old country towns, the nice "company" stuff is out in front, and the ratty who-gives-a-shit stuff is in my room.
