Vote for me, because I don't suck as bad as the other guy!
On Wednesday, my daughter had to answer the phone approximately 300 times. (well, not really, it was more like 10.) The phone calls were for my hubby, and were all political.
She fielded so many of them that she finally called me at work.
"It's eerie, Mom," she said. "It's like one of those terrible movies where the telephone keeps ringing and ringing and the heroine keeps answering the phone... and the next scene is the butcher knife!"
Yesterday was no different. The same guy kept calling and asking for my hubby. Then, someone stopped by in the afternoon. My son told him that Eric wasn't home.
So, at 8:30 last night, the doorbell rang. The guy wanted to talk about his candidate, Rob Brading. According to campaign literature we've received from his opponent's camp, Rob cornholes his cocker spaniel, sneers at old ladies crossing the street (and tries to hit them) and wants YOUR child to see pornography.
The problem is, the campaign guy came to our house. I think even my online friends know that we don't like people to drop in on us. Our home is a haven from the world, and unless you've been invited, it's probably not a good idea to just stop by. As this young man found out.
Eric opened the door, the guy started to talk, and Eric cut him off, saying, "I don't want to talk to you."
"Well, I just wanted to say,"
"Are you deaf? I said get out of here. I come home to get AWAY from people and you're on my goddamn porch!"
Then, the guy sealed his fate. "Okay, can I just put you down as undecided?"
And Eric answered loudly, "You can put me down as get the fuck off my property!"
The guy KEPT BLATHERING as he was walking away, and I sincerely thought Eric was going to go out and kick the guy's ass. Really. Today, my answering machine message says, "You've reached our election season call-screening device. We don't want to talk to you about the election. Consider this a request NOT to call back.If you're a friend, leave a message. We're probably sitting here right now listening."
Oh. And I made a sign for each door.
