From a flooded yard (broken water main) to a slumber party for adults to a hospital, a slumber party for kids in my grandparent's old house back to a flooded yard where my son was trying to turn off the water and I was drowning...
Around and around and around. Kept going to the same places.
The flooded yard happened because I pulled on a pipe that was sticking up. Within about two minutes, the water was ankle-deep and rising. Alyssa was mad because she was wanting to play with her little plastic tigers in the trench, and it was full of water. She was about six or so in the dream. I was using a shovel, trying to scoop a little tiger out while she stood on the porch.
Then, it was some sort of family-type slumber party, but the kids were in a separate area of this big house. All the adults were to sleep in a large room with linoleum floors. The pregnant woman who was sleeping three mattresses away was not happy with the way the floor had buckled from all the water underneath. Apparently, the house had been built in the front yard that I was responsible for flooding.
Then, the rest of us at this party got word that the woman had delivered a baby. 4lbs, 3oz. With a little tan sock-like birthmark because the baby was "AmFamAmerican" For that same reason, the baby was to room with dad, not mom while they were at the hospital. The baby was already able to say a few words, which, according to the person who announced it, wasn't that unusual in an AmFam baby.
I was looking for a different room to sleep in because I snore. I did not want to snore in front of all those people. I did not know anyone there, and I don't know why I was there. It's certainly not something I'd do while awake!!
(Don't ask. I have no idea.)
Then, a slumber party at my grandparent's old house. The house looked nothing like the actual home they lived in, but it didn't seem weird to me at the time. I was there with a bunch of kids, conducting activities and supervising them. The kids were secondary, though. I don't remember interacting with a single one or even what they looked like.
The Hawaiian uncle of one of the kids had come to stay, and we had to make separate sleeping arrangements for him.
I put him in a back bedroom, where there were two dead people.
My grandparents.
It smelled very bad in there, and there were tufts of mold in their hair.
I apologized to him for the mess, and explained that no one had been to pick them up yet because of the backlog. I knew and he knew without discussion that there had been a devastating plague and just in our area there were thousands dead. He just unrolled his sleeping bag on the floor between the two beds and turned on the television.
And then I was back to the flooded yard. Matt was still trying to turn the water off, and it was so deep that I was swimming. The water was just over my head, and I could no longer stand and breathe. I kept trying to stand, though, and taking in great snorts of water. It was so frustrating and scary.
Eric was... gone and could not help us. I don't know where he was, but when I thought of him I was very sad.
Then, back to the slumber party with the adults. Lyssa had joined me, and told me I could sleep in a bedroom she'd found down the hall. There was a baby in there. A tiny little one with a tan foot. He was a totally helpless infant, but he looked at me and said that I could not sleep in there because it was his daddy's room.
Then, back to the grandparent's house. I can't go into detail about the condition of the bodies, but it wasn't pretty. I felt such sorrow as I looked at them. They had.. diminished. There really wasn't anything recognizable left. And still no one had come to get them.
And as I was once again back in the flood, trying to swim to the fence in the yard, Eric came in and woke me up since he was leaving for work.
I hate it when I have dreams that are still clinging to me in fragments as I wake up. I hate it more when the fragments are so large and I remember so much.
Colors a good portion of my day.
Sounds like quite a scary dream. Hope you are feeling OK now.
