I did a lot of goofing off today. Slept in. Tangled a bit. Showered. Oh, I got a few things done, laundry, dishes, ant stomping.
Q. Why don't aardvarks get sick?
A. Because they're full of little ant bodies.
I have a book around here somewhere, 101 uses for a Dead Cat. It's terrible but funny, too. I think I posted about it once, but I'm too lazy to find it. I was trying to figure out today if there was a use for a bunch of dead ants, but didn't think of any.
They'll be back tomorrow, I'm sure, since I didn't get the Boric acid I was wanting. I sent Matt out for it, and he didn't get it. The one pharmacy he went to keeps it behind the counter and they were out.
::sigh::
I'll add it to my list for tomorrow.
I cleaned the counters (again), washed all the dishes and wiped everything down, but those little assholes will be back. They always come back.
I'm sure that while I'm heartlessly murdering the scout ants, thousands more are hatching and will be in my kitchen within a couple days.
I have even found a stray ant now and then in the bathroom.
Maybe I should just give up. Pour sugar all over the floor and counters and send out invitations.
I don't want to make my family sick to kill all the ants, so sprinkling poison on the counters is probably a bad idea. I don't have to worry about any pets getting into it, so I think the Boric acid mix I saw on several different websites will be the next thing I try.
But I know they'll be back.
:)
LOl DAMN ANTS! Good luck gettin rid of all the little bastards!
ReplyDeleteArghghhhh it is SO FRUSTRATING!! They go away. Then they come back and bring friends. Then they go away. Then they hold a goddamn convention on the counter!!! GRRRRRR
DeleteIf you wipe down your surfaces and wash your floor with a 50/50 solution of white spirit vinegar and water, it should help. It's also not poisonous. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
I would clean my house with vinegar and baking soda only, but Lyssa can't stand the smell of vinegar. :(
DeleteI was thinking about putting up a little sign, something like, 'No Ants, Please' and depending on the little buggers to have some courtesy. Do you think that would help?
Think of the ants as being your own personal 'zombie apocalyse'...
ReplyDeleteKill the bastiges...
Never... EVER... apologize for goofing off... :oD
~shoes~
Well,I goof off more than I do just about anything else. My motivation left along with my sanity.
DeleteSomeone said corn starch works. They bring it back, feed it to the colony, and they can't digest it so they die. Won't keep them out, but could keep them from coming back. If it works, let me know.... I'm covering my entire front yard with it.
ReplyDeleteIt's gotten so bad, parts of the lawn have started to sink because of the tunneling.
Corn starch, huh? You wouldn't think they'd eat it, no sweetness. Hm. Might try if the boric acid doesn't work.
DeleteI use Boric acid, too. Outside, around the foundation, we use Terro granules. (I tried the peanut butter baits once and THEY WENT NUTS!!!) Now, in the kitchen, I use the Terro liquid. You put drops of it on little squares and put it around the kitchen. I put it under the microwave, (non)breadbox, anything with a gap under it. Hope you find some relief from the buggers.
ReplyDeleteI have decided that my position on taking care of even the smallest creatures is WRONG and that ALL ANTS NEED TO DIE. Now.
DeleteOnce the counters and floors dry there isn't really a smell. Otherwise, baby powder sprinkled along window sills and thresholds help. Or cucumber and citrus peels can be rubbed on counters to deter them. Bay leaves in drawers will also keep them away.
ReplyDeleteCinnamon, garlic and lavender are plants you can grow to keep them out of your garden.
I have a bay leaf TREE. I definitely have enough leaves to do that, I'm going to stuff them in drawers and cupboards this weekend.
