Okay.
Someone fucked up.
Not sure who.
Or where.
But last week, it was handed down from on high (corporate) that we are no longer allowed to take pictures of the children in our care. For me, kid pics are an integral part of my program. I have three displays of photos, and the parents and children BOTH love seeing them. The kids are very excited when I post new ones, and when their parents come to pick them up, they excitedly show the photos to their moms and dads.
Now I am smart enough that not only do I avoid using the real names of the children in my care when I blog, I don't put their faces up here either.
Remember last year when we tie dyed?
I have taken care to obscure faces if I wanted to post them.
Protect their identities when I write.
But you don't get a corporate decree like this one unless someone really messes up.
So I can now show their projects in photos, but I can't use MY camera to take the pictures. It must be a camera provided by the company. And the company must have the memory card. Putting pictures of children from my site in my own computer is an offense that would cause me to lose my job.
Funny. The photos I've already taken are okay to continue to display at work. But I deleted the others from my computer and won't take any more.
Most sites, it won't make a difference. But it's been a big part of my program that I will be sorry to see gone.
::sigh::
And I even bought a camera specifically for work. A good camera. Cute. Reliable. Friendly. A lot like me, actually. :)
And now? I don't need that cute camera at work anymore.
I can't figure out why they don't just make specific rules for photos and make us adhere to them.
But no.
No photos.
::sigh::
So sad. It's easier to say, "no photos" than to have rules for people to follow. I liked your smiley faced kid photos!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it sad that "corperate" has to make these rules?
ReplyDeleteI am always careful not to show pics of my kids whole faces OR the faces of others who may not want theirs shown. But some are not that careful. :(
I also always change names.
But, now you can use that camera to take happy cute pictures of Eric! No wait... some of those may not be appropriate... :)
I t takes one mistake and a team of morons to jump on it like a pack of dogs anbd ruin it for all! Simple clear rules about photos would be , well just far too simple!
ReplyDeleteWhat!!?? That is ridiculous..as so many things are. :/ The thing that makes me the maddest is that your kids will be the one who loses out. Not getting to see new pics of them. For some of them, that may be the only time they see pictures of themselves on display proudly.
ReplyDeleteDid corporate get in trouble? I am amazed at the idiots out there that sue/allege that things have happened, when they really didn't.
ReplyDeleteIt is sad that companies/individuals have to carry such high limits of liability insurance in the event we are accused of doing something illicit.
That's the society in which we live today...
Blerk...
~shoes~
I am thinking, not at your site, but somewhere a parent complained because a picture of their child was seen by someone that wasn't meant to see? Maybe? Who knows why people in charge make the decisions they do. I like to *think* they have the best interest of the children in mind.
ReplyDeleteA life without photos is really boring. What a silly rule. I'm sure some idiot F'd it up for everyone, now us, your kiddos, and their folks have to suffer the consequences. YUCK!
ReplyDeleteNothing like going overboard. Sucks.
