My family is leaving me!!

They really are.
Eric's dad has a birthday coming up, and his wife (not Eric's mom) wanted us all to come for a surprise gift.

When I demurred (Gosh, July 16th is only 10 days post surgery,I can't travel and I won't be able to be alone... she said she'd change the date to August, I said gee, I won't be working this summer, really can't afford it...) she offered to pay for the tickets.

I think it's rather telling that I'd rather have knee surgery than visit them, don't you?

(I'm KIDDING!! Sheesh!!)

So my hubby and kids won't be going while I'm still in a medically fragile state, and I'll have people to call on if I need them... but they're leaving me!

Is it too early for me to start worrying about August hurricanes?

Last time I visited Louisiana, it was 1992.
Two days post-Andrew. The devastation was truly amazing.
On the other hand, everyone in the family was safe, they know what to do and how to manage it all...and of course I am not currently able to obsess at a very high level.

This is good.

But what this really means is that I won't get to see my father in law this year, and I'm really sorry about that. I've mentioned him here before... (Remember me explaining the difference between inlaws and outlaws to him?
Outlaws are wanted.) but all teasing aside, he's a very nice man.

I've been married to his son for nearly 30 years and he STILL has not said a negative thing to me about how I keep the house, the kids, my man or my life. The extended nursing, co sleeping, homeschooling... not a word. Not one.
He has said a lot of positive things, but nothing negative.

A true jewel of a father in law.

So yeah. No Bobapalooza 2010, but maybe next year....

  2. Hurricanes are slow moving and they know how to get out of the way if one is approaching. We've lived with hurricanes, off and on, for 18 years now.

I hate to be alone, though, so I would be unhappy about that part! Sure the dog is some company but mine would just wag his tail if someone tried to break in!

Another surgery. Here I am just catching up. I am sure you and your family will be fine. Sounds like a great FIL which may explain the great husband. Too bad you won't see him this year.

  4. That will be weird to be alone in your house this August. But, it might be kind of nice too. I wouldn't worry about hurricanes, though. Portia's right. The good thing about hurricanes is you get enough warning to get out in time.

  5. "He has said a lot of positive things, but nothing negative." In 30 years? Wow! That's incredible and awesome! Sorry you won't get to see him. :(
