I like to read other people's blogs if they're fun to read, make me laugh, make me think, or otherwise hold my attention on a semi-regular basis. If a person only posts once a month or so, I don't bother reading them, since it annoys me when people have too much time between posts.
:)
I've been reading one I like for awhile. Stumbled across it by clicking 'next blog', which is usually a waste of time. He's a 30-something single guy, currently in TX. He's a bit self-absorbed (okay, a lot) and other than the fact that his writing is sometimes readable and he's human, we don't have all that much in common. But he makes me laugh on occasion.
So he posted on his blog yesterday about Nicole Richie's DUI arrest. He likes her and he didn't see what the big deal was, since he and most of his friends have done the same thing. He just thought she should hire a driver. No, really? Well, pardon me, but only a moron wouldn't see why driving while impaired is a selfish act from a worthless loser.
If you're not in training for the Teddy Kennedy Drink, Drive and Swim, you have NO excuse for getting behind the wheel while impaired!!
I think *anyone* who drives while impaired should lose their license. The FIRST time they're caught. Anyone who does it probably hasn't yet lost a friend, a child, or a family member to some idiot who couldn't sober up before getting behind the wheel of a car. People who drive under the influence probably don't know the two little nephews of my friend. Their dad is raising them alone now. They go to the closet and smell their mom's clothes to remember her. She was killed two days before Thanksgiving 2000 at 11 a.m. by a stupid piece of shit drunk who'd been arrested 14 times for drunk driving. As I recall, the asshole who killed her got 10 years. And never took responsibility. Seems he had a rough childhood. Her babies were five and seven years old. There are thousands and thousands of other sad but true stories out there. Anyone who kills someone while driving impaired should receive the death penalty. Preferably administered on the spot, ala Judge Dredd.
I don't care if you drink... as long as you're not supposed to be responsible for your children at the time you're drunk. Just don't drive. And don't expect my sympathy if you get caught doing so. Alcohol and other drugs are not meant for people who are driving. And yes, I said it that way on purpose. It may be a *legal* drug, but alcohol IS a drug and if you're an alcoholic, you're don't have a disease... you have a drug addiction. Get some help. And don't drive.
I agree completely - something like drunk driving is a pattern, they do need to lose their license right away.
ReplyDeleteDo you hear that? It's the sound of my standing applause. I couldn't have said it better myself.
